ROME: -- Pope Francis has announced that Mother Teresa of Calcutta, who dedicated her life to helping the poor, will be made at saint of the Roman Catholic Church in September.

He had already cleared away for sainthood for the 1979 Nobel peace laureate, who died in 1997. The ceremony is to take place at the Vatican.

Mother Teresa became an international figure during her lifetime and was beatified in 2003.

If anyone thinks this woman is a saint read "The Missionary Position: Mother Teresa in Theory and Practice" by Christopher Hitchens

This is the 21st century. Isn't it about time to start rethinking this whole medieval sainthood concept? facepalm.gif

How many 'miracles' will she have to posthumously perform before her sainthood become official? coffee1.gif

an 'award' to a woman who thought suffering was good !!

i suppose the idea is because the fictional literary biblical character called Jesus 'suffered' we are then mean't to suffer

in order to achieve entry into the home of some strange deity who lives in another dimension, who was supposed

to have created the universe ?

Where in the collection of pamphlets that makes up the Bible and New Testament in particular (old testament simply being

a fantasy of Jewish racial history) does whomever wrote the things he is supposed to have said, does Christ say it is a good thing to suffer?

without the political and social respectability of religion it has achieved through its interweaving

in the systems of government and power, one would describe such beliefs as being an aspect of serious mental ill-health.

you couldn't really make this stuff up could you ? but it was !

Cheers wap

If don't have time to read book, check out this video of Hitchens about this fraudulent hypocrit: https://youtu.be/65JxnUW7Wk4

Isn't this all fraudulent and hypocritical?

Saints, supposed miracles, all mixed in with pedophiles, and extreme wealth which is kept to themselves? There is something very unsavory about a religious doctrine offering salvation for a price. But a corruption that as lasted well.

More like time to rethink the whole catholic church concept. Riddled with corruption and hypocrisy throughout it's history. Who knows what information they've suppressed, destroyed or have hidden away to suit their own agenda.

Well I doubt she is having a good time in her 'heaven'. There will be the souls of thousands of children left to die in her hospice who were never given medical treatment reminding her of her un-saintly ness.

How much does sainthood cost these days? I sorta like the title.

Well, you have to be dead first. So when do you want me to help you qualify for the title?
