Ulic
A tourist and his gold chain will soon be parted in Pattaya. (even Sharkey lost his) Do not wear gold or other items of wealth in Pattaya. (watches are fine, everyone assumes they are fake.)
soalbundy
Hope the thief gets TB from the phlegm on the necklace
dunroaming
Well the thief wouldn't know that it was a Cartier necklace when he snatched it if in fact it was a genuine one. I was offered Cartier jewelry in China many times along with Prada and other designer makes. Usual price was 20,000 to 40,000 baht but actual value considerably less. Of course the real stuff is also available in Shanghai and Hong Kong but I would be surprised to see their clients in a tour group in Pattaya. I always advise friends to not wear anything steal-able in Thailand especially in the tourist towns

ace
I know that area very well, there's really not a lot of crime there, some friendly & helpful Thais too. Lot of Chinese though, just unlucky I'd say, passing yob happens everywhere.
tomacht8
That's stupid, if you show off with a 250,000 baht necklace in a red light district. The two-time annual income of a normal thai worker.Near to reach. This could have happened in any other red light district in the world. The factory boss has learned his lesson. mcfish
China man owns an electronic factory definitely loaded and next time instead of chasing cheap hookers he should consider Monaco @ 2k $ for short time. At least his image won't go viral back home
ChoakMyDee
Pattaya sounds like a lovely place. I think I'll take the wife and kids there for holiday,
jacko45k
Considering that most Chinese tourists are in large groups with guides warning them on wearing open valuable and to watch their handbags should not be difficult. Although they are not known for listening to 'advice nor instruction'. As to their comments with respect to the Police, they got that right. arithai12
This is not about ladyboys or balconies. It's about going around with a 7,000 USD necklace in a not so reputable district, and chances are the same or worse would happen in many cities in the world. Not trying to justify it of course. mikebell
If sufficient Thais could be encouraged to take up this career would that cut down on the coach congestion which is slowly strangling Pattaya. How easy would it be to board a bus; produce a gun and do a Dick Turpin.
Colabamumbai
you have to be a little bit stupid to go to any area in the world where there are poor people and drug addicts, and walk around with valuable jewellery. You can get killed in Canada for that too. Where? Jane and Finch.
Nobb
The countries lack of selling exports and the low wages in the country plus the many drug addicts who need to feed there habit. After to many of these happenings the Chinese will not even come to Thailand!

You should feel safe to wear gold or any thing any where at any time in a country. The only problem that the addict Thais learned to prey on the tourist with little or no arrests!
