i live here on a retirement ext of stay, after my 90 day report on 21 April, i intend to go to a place near the border and later go to cambodia of vietnam for a few days. ok, question > do i need to fill in a TM 8 as i was told if i did not then on re-entry i would be classsed as a "newbie" and have to start all over again. i have the TM 8 in front of me. what (if i need to fill it out) is the leaving and returning dates, well i havent got a clue until i get to my destination, and how long i will stay in the two countries.was told it cost 1900 baht is this so. thanks in advance.KC

The dates are not important. The re-entry permit will be valid for the remainder of your current extension of stay.

You should buy the re-entry permit (1,000 baht) from your local immigration office ahead of your trip as they are not available at all land border crossings.

Yes, you will need to complete a TM8 and apply for a re-entry permit at your local immigration office, assuming that you will be travelling overland since land border immigration checkpoints don't issue re-entry permits (as their counterparts at BKK and DMK airports do) as far as I know.

As regards the dates, just provide estimates. Provided that the second date (1) follows the first and (2) predates your current permission to stay date, you should have no problems. I, for example, apply for a re-entry permit at the same time as my retirement extension, which I use after a trip to Europe 10 months later. At that time I have no idea of my exact flight dates, but have never had any difficulty in obtaining re-entry permits on the basis of approximate travelling dates.

I travel quite a bit in my Consulting Business, so I pay 3,800THB and get a Multi-entry Permit each time do the extension and do not worry.

If you go throught the Bangkok Division One use can get an appointment and not have to spend half a day sitting.

Sure in the old days but depending on the location when applying? Pattaya it has gotten really fast especially after 1pm, Time is money in the old days I would just pay the 3800, but now it is fast so I just pay the 1000 for single entry. I do no more than 2 trips a year 2000 save 1800 baht. Even the Thai lady immigration ask me why I was applying for a Multi when I make only 1 or 2 trips out a year. I didn't want to say why too scared to criticize them but I'll be the first to admit they have improved greatly. In the morning they can be a bit slow in this area Window 1, late January I was the first one at the door, first number given to window one. They as always are the last one to open, every division was already calling numbers at 8:20 am, although suppose to open at 8:30am. Window one ladies and guy were just sitting and still eating/drinking at 8:40am, Since they do not process one at a time after you pay instead do them in stacks so not a lot of difference between one and ten. I decided to go to breakfast outside and popped in after a half hour and it was ready! Don't leave without one....

I got a re-entry permit at CW today. Picked up a queue ticket at 09.44 and received the permit at 13.25. It was packed! I then tried to do my 90-day report, but there were 150+ people ahead of me in the, slow moving, queue. I will try online instead.

Must the pre-Songkran rush!

Buy a multi use re-entry permit when you renew your retirement extension next year….it saves this sort of hassle. At my immigration office single use re-entry is 1900 baht and multi use is 3500 baht, although I couldn't swear that it is the same every where.

A single re-entry permit is 1000 baht or 3800 baht for a multiple at every immigration office.

I tend to only make one trip a year, so a multiple-entry is not worth it. That said, the last few times I've just got it at the airport, which has always been hassle-free. As I will be travelling with a toddler this time, I thought it best to save time at the airport.

I get a multiple re-entry as it saves my passport from filling up so quickly. Also if you have a two year extension it'll last two years.

1000 baht/1 entry

3800 baht/multi entry.

You do the economics.

That,s false economy to the max, unless you do 3 trips out.

I don't think re-entry permits are available at that crossing. You ahould get one from immigration before making the trip. If you are on an extension of stay you need to get it at the office that did it.
