Two good bakeries directly opposite each other just before the traffic lights on Soi Siam Country Club where the turn to Nongprue district offices is.

A few decent places to eat on that road and around the lake a bit further on. Depends what you like to eat really.

Continental bakery on Soi Khao Noi sells decent bread. If you want rolls gets there in the AM.

Tons of decent eateries around. you can eat 3 meals a day between the 4 main soi's (Talo/Noi/Nernplub/Siam CC) and not eat at the same place in any given week.

If you're happy buying meats and veg at the local markets, then you can go to (what I call) the Railway Market, at Nern Pub Wan and Railway Bypass Road.

For really good meats (all frozen but high quality), I visit the Prime Meats outlet on Nern Pub Wan. It's really hard to describe where it is though. Eastbound on NPW, it's about 1.4 km from the Pizza Hut, which comes after the Pizza Company. When you are near, you will pass under the high-tension electrical wires and towers, then a small sub-soi, lefthand side. There are two signs directly over NPW for Dariva Place. Just after the sub-soi corner is a shophouse row, first unit is Prime's. You usually see a small delivery truck parked. Prime is written on the window decal. You have to press the outdoor bell button for service.

For almost everything though, I still tend to slug it across Sukhumvit to Friendship, Foodland and Big C Extra.

M. Vincent on Soi 89 just east of railway line has been baking French bread and pastries for over 25 years. Bakes from sparrow's fart to 1800 every day except sundays and opens at 0630.. The Baguette 89 is highly recommned

On the Darkside, if you are a farang do not want to go drive a lot and what access quick (walk) then out of all the four main Soi's? I believe Khao Noi is you best bet. The upper portion has a number of your needs, plus access to Soi Nernpludwan, Soi Siam, Soi Khao Talo.

There are a number of gated development homes for sale or rent. Near the top there is also a new condo development.

2 great places to eat but access is temporarily obstructed by road construction.

Suggestions on Pattanakarn Rd is superb and has a 3 course menu for 295 bht - superb food.

The second one is the Italian restaurant about 200 metres further down, not aircon but more than makes up with standard and quality of food.

For great expat (US) food have to hit the Blue Moose (google it)...its off of Khao Noi. Another favourite and a must is Pepper and Salt all the way up Khao Talo, turn right at the bend just past the Bird Cage. Great Salads, ribs, and steaks, my Thai wife says the Thai food is excellent as well. Not in to the fresh breads too much.

Decent breakfast and fish and chips at Moonies (for about 150 Baht). Nern Plab Wan on North side just before the school and the Pussycat Bar. One of the best burgers on the Dark Side is at an adjunct restaurant to the Little Bakery across the street from Wanasin Market and Tony's Gym. That is on Soi Siam Country Club Road Soi 16. Most family and friends like the Ventienne Restaurant but I always leave there underwhelmed. Nice 3 br 3 ba house for sale or rent in the village I live in which is just off the aformentioned SCC Road Soi 16. Couple of other nice new villages in the area. Interesting that the real names for Nern Plub Wan (Mapyalai or something iike that) and Siam Country Club Road (Pornprapha?) are never used except on the street signs.

Nanas, turn left at the end of Nern Plub Waan(the road takes you to soi siam).

Excellent food there and reasonabl priced, they also have a small shop next door selling some expat foods.

Also the PLayers Lounge on the same road do a great breakfast and English style Chinese.
