Interesting that there was a very similar thread to this regarding the Avenue several years back with many people claiming that the developers were "smarter" than the TVF peanut gallery questioning its design/location, and that the place would be a roaring success

No.

I stayed near that mall about five years ago and was in there almost everyday for six weeks. Back then it had a steady stream of customers during the week and very busy on the weekend so I don't know why it would have been a 'white elephant'.

Well, you know it doesn't have be a white elephant, which would require meaningful numbers and standard measures, to be called a white elephant. To avoid entirely that designation, every shop has to be seen at all times to have customers lined up at every cashier station. It's merely part of the TVF At All Times rule. Hence Harbor was a white elephant from the moment of announcement!

Sounds like it is a clone of the one in Laem Chabang and it is a massive flop.

It's taken me an hour just to get out of "Central" car park on a weekend...dont know why all the Bangkokians insist on going shopping in Pattaya, It's as if they haven't got any malls of their own.

Lots of people like to hit malls in a different area, esp when they're on holiday (however short). Look around, maybe buy a gift, find a new resto, etc. That partly explains how Ala Moana Center in Honolulu became one of the most profitable in the USA. Thais don't seem to mind traffic jams nearly as much as TVF members do.

So they rather spend 2 hours driving from "Bangers" to Pattaya then have to find a parking spot + maybe an hour to get out of the of the parking spot and another 2 hours drive home instead of just getting a taxi or train to one of the many "Bangers Malls"

That's entirely possible. Perhaps the males of the family prefer to party in Pattaya, and the women can still go shopping in a nice mall.

If only there is some sort of establishment where in exchange of money, people can get rooms and bed and can spend the night instead of going to their home, maybe with such a service, Pattaya could become, maybe a destination where people can come and spend their free time and go to places like beach and such

Correct, there was a thread, and our "resident shopping mall / condo apologist", would  chime in and defend any negative reply.

No. If there were, then you'd give us links to posts--so easy, as there were "many"--from the many people claiming that the developers were "smarter" than the TVF peanut gallery questioning its design/location, and that the place would be a roaring success. But you can't as there are none. You know it; I know it. Hence seems we're just lying again. Why the desperation? Just so you can flame? Whee!

So you have already done the "Central" number plate study. Can you release your findings or are they
copyright proprietary trade secrets ?

It is not a secret and common knowledge that a disproportionate amount of locals will either pay the extra or wait longer to have their cherished car registered in Bangkok despite actually living somewhere in Nakhon Nowhere where they bought it. Among other nonsense like hiding their provincial status, it's supposedly improves the resale value.

If you doubt this, you can always post a thread on the motoring forum and ask.

No I'm sure such old fangled ideas as hotels are totally last century and
cool Bangkokians would rather spend time sat in their cars in traffic jams showing off their "Bangers" number plates.

Aren't Sundays supposed to be the busiest day of the week?

Yes it was quite busy considering how much the attractions cost per person but it certainly wasn't "packed to the gunnel's"

Saturday dinner time, it was a bit busy.  Not packed, but by no means empty.  Lots of people eating at the various restaurants, so seems to be a destination for local families to eat out.  Did not see much in the way of 'tourists'.

Given its slow season right now, not bad turnout there.

Thais love this mall , they can eat in the restaurants and then maybe go ice skating later. Lots of activities going on .

then why many shops in there are already closed for good and the place is completely deserted at least 5 days a week (Mon - Fri) ?

Might be like the Indian Restaurants on 2nd road.  Empty all day, packed for feeding time, empty again.

Maybe harbor mall is only really 'busy' for 2 hours a day :)
