scorpio1945 Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Quite heavy rain here starting 10 mins ago, near old airport. Canal around house getting close to brim.
canuckamuck Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Our lowest piece of land is now a torrent. The water is over the bridge about 500 meters from there. Cutting off a village. No way to tell how much land we are losing till the water goes down.
villagefarang Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Our lowest piece of land is now a torrent. The water is over the bridge about 500 meters from there. Cutting off a village. No way to tell how much land we are losing till the water goes down. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you won't get any more rain and things will dry out quickly. Let us know how it goes when the waters retreat.
Manassas Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 The highway department just constructed new drainaage canals along the highway in our village. That big rain still flooded the usual low areas. Our soi was under water. But the water seems to be retreating quickly so maybe the highway project helped. The problem is that the valley is so flat the water really has no where to go. Our new wall really helped keeper water out of our lot. With the exception of water coming through the gate when the soi floods. I'll have to devise a little raised berm under the gate. Hope everyone's house is dry! 1
canuckamuck Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Just got the power back. We didn't lose much actual land this time. But a large ancient sandbar that we considered ours and we had trees on. Has been stripped clean and has been shortened at the head. It seems one more flood like that and it will be gone. This cold season I guess I will be making some concrete embankments.
villagefarang Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 It was raining again this morning when I woke up but yesterday was beautiful so I went for a ride. The Ing River and various local streams were meandering about completely disregarding their accepted boundaries. Farmland and small parks were under a chocolate hued torrent of water. Regardless people were out fishing in the floodwaters. The water was nearly touching the bottom of the bridges. 2
canuckamuck Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Aye carumba! It's really coming down! Think I saw an ark. 1
harrry Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Aye carumba! It's really coming down! Think I saw an ark. Must have driven along that road that passes the Rimkok from google map 2
ripstanley Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Had a beautiful morning with clear sky and sunshine. This afternoon had a big storm with wind and lightning. The rain started for about 30 minutes before the first thunder was heard. It lasted here for around 2 hours. We live near Phayao
harrry Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 So where did the mountains go? You mean you are getting so fit you did not notice them.
villagefarang Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I wish, the problem is I can't see them anymore.
harrry Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I wish, the problem is I can't see them anymore. At least it is only mist...that is no problem for me. As far as breathing is concerned the weather now is perfect. 1
ripstanley Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 The mountain range near Phayao also disappeared this morning. They reappeared this afternoon but were very hazy. The sun disappeared at 1725 this afternoon. It set over the highest peak of the mountain range. 1
canuckamuck Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 We had an all night rain two nights ago, I was looking forward to some clear days, but no, it's hazier than ever. Oh well, off to Canada for a month. That will fix me. 1
sceadugenga Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Cool and misty here. Mrs has left heavily laden with angling gear, old clothes and lunch to carry out heavy slaughter among the local fishes.
harrry Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 So fish dinner tonight....and tomorrow and the next day?
sceadugenga Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 I'm not a big fan of tilapia, maybe if she came back with a nice snapper about 4 pound.
shawn22 Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 How is the air quality in Chiang Rai in general and also in comparison to Chiang Mai?
villagefarang Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 The air quality has been really great in Chiang Rai recently but it can change in a matter of days.
villagefarang Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 This weather is wreaking havoc on the rice fields. On my ride yesterday a large percentage of the fields were laying on the ground. A few brave souls were trying to get the harvest in before anymore damage was done but it seemed too wet for the harvest machines. The last few years Loy Krathong has been cold and family came to the pond bundled in jackets. At this moment it is pouring down rain and I wonder if anyone will be braving the elements to celebrate tonight. Odd weather indeed.
villagefarang Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Loving these cool foggy mornings. Today was the coolest it has been so far in our village.
villagefarang Posted December 22, 2014 Posted December 22, 2014 Spent the weekend in Chiang Mai and found it much warmer than here in Chiang Rai. It is a little too windy for me but I love the temperature these days. Being able to ride the mt. bike for 80 km without sweating is a big plus.
canuckamuck Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 It's officially cold this morning. 7 outside 8 indoors. At least it took a while to get cold this year. Almost too cold to type! Now where are those guys that are always crying about handing out free blankets? I know several in my village that would happily give them a free kick in the nads. 2
ripstanley Posted March 23, 2015 Posted March 23, 2015 In and near Phayao we actually had a few drops of rain this afternoon. Enough to use the wipers on the car and in one village there was water on the ground. Lets hope we get a lot more very soon.
ripstanley Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 Had a storm this morning. It was a pleasure to feel and smell the rain. The temperature has dropped. We need more storms and rain to clear the smoke.
villagefarang Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 My dog woke me up last night, something she doesn’t do normally. At first I heard nothing but before long there was a low rumble in the distance. Next the wind picked up, followed by house shaking thunder. Finally the rain came down in buckets and it was impossible to sleep from 1:30 am to after 2:30 am. The rain continued on and off throughout the night and this morning everything looks and feels different. 1
canuckamuck Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 We only got enough for the ground to remain damp. But it is a nice cool day, and the best air we have had in a long time. 1
