I came across this reference in a scholarly article on antisemitism at British universities almost 50 years before the Gaza war: "For instance, in Britain in 1976 and 1977, eight student unions adopted “Zionism is racism” resolutions, openly flouting previously held policies not to deal with the Middle East. Subsequently several student unions, such as those at the University of York and the University of Salford, decided to strike Jewish societies from their registers and to restrict their activities." https://jcfa.org/article/the-1975-zionism-is-racism-resolution-the-rise-fall-and-resurgence-of-a-libel/ The excerpt below came from an article titled, "Anti‐zionism at British universities," in Patterns of Prejudice, a peer-reviewed academic journal that has been published since 1967. The article's date of publication is July-August 1977. I bolded the final sentence for emphasis. "Resolutions on the Middle East were debated in 21 student unions up and down the country in the last two terms. Anti- Zionist resolutions, calling for the destruction of Israel, labelling Zionism as racism and resolving complete support for the PLO, were passed at eleven campuses, including Salford, Warwick, York, Swansea universities; the School of Oriental and African Studies, London, the North London Polytechnic and University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
