citibank in Bangkok

Featured Replies

I will spend June in bangkok. I just noticed that there is a citibank branch in Bangkok. If I have a savings account with the citibank in the USA, can I withdraw baht from that account once I am in Bangkok? If so, is there a foreign transaction fee?

There is also a bank of america branch there.. I have the same question concerning that bank.

If I can not access my money from the US bank in thailand, at least is it easier to open up an account at the thai bank branch with only a passport?

There is no retail Bank of American in Bangkok, there is only a commercial "office" that assists US businesses doing business in Thailand. The office is in the huge office building next to the US Embassy Annex on Wireless Road

As far as the OP is concerned, if you have an ATM card for your US Citibank account you can use their ATM's but it has been reported that they also charge the Thai Bankers Association foreign use fee not to mention that City Bank gives the lousiest exchange rate you can get in Thailand

The only exception is customers who have either gold or platinum accounts (min $100,000 on deposit) they can withdraw without a fee, but still get a crap exchange rate

A couple of years ago, there was no ATM charge (I have Citibank account outside Thailand). But the exchange rate was not as good as what I can get from money exchange place (Vasu on Suk 7/1). So it's a trade off ... carry a bit of US currency for better exchange rate or safety of using ATM card at lower exchange rate.

I think Citibank Thailand website would have all information regarding transaction fees.

The answer to your first question is, "no".

The answer to your second question is also, "no".

The answer to your third question is, "no", again.

If you want A break from Thailand ATM fees, join charlesschwab. They reimburse all ATM fees. They make it easy

Yes, there are a few Citibank locations in Thailand. Also search Citi's website for locations. Cheers and GL.

Only in Bangkok

There is one branch of Citibank in Thailand. It is a Thai registered subsidiary of Citibank USA but is in effect a Thai bank for all intents and purposes. If you have a Citi ATM card, you can withdraw funds from your USA Citibank accounts, but you could do that at just about any other Thai bank ATM as well. (You will pay the same fees at any Thai bank, including Thai Citibank). You will not be able to do teller transactions (cash withdrawls) using your USA account at the Citibank branch in Thailand. You could also get cash advances on a Citi credit card (ATM or teller) but again, you could do that at any Thai bank.

The other Citi "branches" people see around Thailand are actually offices of Citi's finance company operation and not bank branches.

There is only one proper citi bank in Thailand and thats in BKK, the other citibanks around Thailand are not banking branches
