Myanmar govt ministers prohibited from appointing relatives as personal assistants

Guidelines-for-Personal-Assistants-wpcf_

NAYPYITAW: -- Union level government ministers have been barred from appointing close relatives as personal assistants, according to the President’s Office's statement released on Monday, The Irrawaddy reported.

The statement said the guidelines for government officials also applicable to all regional governments have been distributed to the relevant offices.

The document was signed by Aung San Suu Kyi, who is the minister of the President’s Office, on April 1.

“Members of the union government are restricted from appointing their wife, husband or close relatives as personal assistants in government offices and organizations,” the guidelines read.

According to the statement, close relatives include one’s siblings, children, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Only public servants can undertake the position in accordance with existing regulations.

Well done Myanmar. You are on the right track. Keep demonstrating good governance to your people.

Hope your neighbours take note.

(note - Neighbor is preferred in American English, and neighbour is preferred in all the other main varieties of English.)

I think the current government of Thailand have already learned a great deal from Burma.
