Can I take my bicycle on every type of train for a short journey?

Featured Replies

Hi I was thinking of cycling from BKK to Ayuthhya tomorrow and taking the train back. I know for longer journeys they ask that you send it as cargo but for short journeys, is it okay to bring it into the carriage or must it go in the cargo area? All the trains after 7.15am are listed as 'ordinary' is that type of train likely to have a cargo carriage?

A cyclist friend of mine traveled from Khorat to Udon Thani by train with 2 bicycles. He had to pay for both bikes which he was told to keep with him at his seat. The conductor went right along with that as well.

ok thanks, had one person at the station tell me cargo only but then the guy on the platform said 'ok for carriage if not full', so I wasn't sure.

Did you ever go for the ride and find out? I normally ride from Rangsit to Ayudthaya and back a couple of times a month, takes 3-4 hours and 110km distance, never thought about taking the train back, although often see them while riding along

On the occasion that prompted the post no because the woman in the ticket office said I couldn't because the train only had two carriages (sprinter) and was likely to be full but I plan to go this weekend and will attempt once more. Having thought about it, I think she was just being a bit stroppy.

Which route is the best for that? I was thinking of reap klong premprachagon (or whatever its called) then onto the 3309 and 3347

Yep that's pretty much it, or I start at the PT station (next to the expressway exit) on the 3309 and follow the river, more interesting than riding next to the canal
