Travelling on Fiancee Visa

Featured Replies

HI Everyone,

Is it possible for me and my fiancée to go on a holiday outside of the UK to another European city whilst my Fiancée has a UK Fiancée visa? Or do we have to wait until we are married?

Thanks for the help,

Terry

She will need a Schengen Visa, the UK Visa is only valid for the United Kingdom and territories.

As Beano says she will need a Schengen Visa if she wishes to visit most countries in mainland Europe, she doesn't have to be married.

Most countries in the Schengen area require that applications are made in the applicants country of residence.

She would need to check that her fiancé visa is marked as "multi entry", sometimes they're not, if it wasn't she wouldn't be able to return to the UK.

Remember the Schengen Visa won't give her freedom all over

Europe, she will get a Schengen Visa for the countries she will

visit, seems silly to me.

err? A Schengen visa gives access to the entire Schengen area. You can enter, travel through and exit via any memberstate.

In very rare cases a visa with territorial restrictions is issued, meaning that the visa is limited to a selected number of countries or that the visa is not valid a selected few countries. The visa sticker then won't read "Schengen States" in the "valid" for line but list the countries (country codes) the visa is restricted to with a plus or minus sign.

Ofcourse you do have to apply at the country that is your genuine main objective but you are not forbidden from changing your travel plans. If you had a genuine plan and it simply changed everything should be just fine unless the authorities believe you lied about your intentions (in which case they could refuse entry or to issue a new visa).

You and the OP may find the sticky topic on Schengen a useful read. :)

Right OK I will have a look into the Schengen visa and costs. We are getting married in August so I may just wait. Once we are married and she has got her Leave to remain visa sorted she will be able to travel around europe easily enough or will I still need to get a schengen visa then?

Thanks

She would still need a Schengen visa but for spouses and other direct family (children) the visa would be free and with minimum requirements. Details for both the normal short stay visa and the relaxed rules (visa for family members of EU nationals) can be found in the sticky.
