Heaven knows where you live Konini but here in Meechok at 19:44 it is 37 Celsius which I would hardly regard as cooler. And on top of the heat we are beset by frequent power and water cuts, four in two weeks. This has to be the worst hot season I have every experienced, and even my Thai friends are becoming weary. But hey there is no water shortage if you watch my near neighbour washing down his paved driveway every morning!

Ah, you know where I live - remember the steam cleaner? (which gets an awful lot of use thankyouverymuch wai2.gif )

It could be the equivalent of an optical illusion, I know it's still really hot out on the balcony, but the air inside seems to be a bit cooler. This really is like being back in Melbourne in the middle of a hot snap when the night time temperature hovers around 40 in the house, and once the house heats up it takes days and days to cool down again. At least we're not getting power cuts, had one during the strong winds last week, but the backup generator here lasts for 2 hours before going on to common area's and lifts only. Power cuts I could deal with, but I really feel for you with water cuts. I wouldn't like that at all.

(Sweeping drives with hose pipes was the first thing that was banned in Melbourne for the water restrictions, I didn't even know people did that but plenty moaned about it so there must have been a lot. There were council inspectors patrolling and fining people if they got caught and plenty of neighbours dobbing each other in, but unless the inspector actually caught you in the act he couldn't fine you, but would send a letter noting that they had been reported and inspectors were patrolling the area regularly.)

Another month or so and you will all be complaining about the difficulties of going anywhere because of the flooding...... if the seasonal extremes hold true we should be in for a whallop of a rainy season.

I'm loving this heat, it's the humidity coming that makes me crawl up the walls.

Jumping between a/c and this heat is heaven. That comes from a 'baltic childhood' hating the cold.

Go back to your single all-year grey cloud in in the northern hemisphere if you cannot handle it.

From what I am reading, the majority of farangs are coping well in this time of excessive dryness and heat.

I wonder how the nationals are coping?

Food prices climbing, water resources declining and marginalizing farmers, general cost of living going up regardless of one's socio-economic status.

Must be a vicious circle of domino effects on the less than wealthy!

You need enough moisture in the air for that to work. It's not like they make rain out of nothing.

The wife had mentioned she heard its been something like 60yrs back since a likewise heatwave in these parts.

As well, Feb. was freezing with apparently some record lows.

A Thai-guy told me this morning that Doi Tao is "dry"....thats unlikely being such a large lake...but if it is...OhOh sad.png

The picture is the Ping River in Hod (hot) area, south of the city.

Apparently its the "super El nino" weather phenomen that is behind it all. This was attributed to the cause of the massive fire in Canada last week, not to mention dozens still burning.

Weather extremes maybe the effects of global warming.

Is that really the mighty Ping River?

How does it look in the center of town?

The picture is taken South of the city, to the centre and in the North it looks fairly normal so I'm not sure what happens as it leaves the city that makes it dry up.

Pa Daet weir is what happens to it.

It's as low as I've seen it. And still the council workers are hosing down the steps outside the municipal building to the bridge every single day. I know it always smells of wee over there, but I just hope that they aren't using potable water in those trucks. I've never seen one with the hose down in the water filling up, perhaps they are pulling it out of my line of sight. I hope so.

I will go off topic a bit as I think it has been well establshed that it is freaken HOT.

Konini mentiond the smell(gag) along our lovely river just north of Kad Luang. for years the songteaw drivers have been using the walkway as a toilet, the amonia fumes are overpowering in that area. That should be (as designed) a place to sit by the water and relax yet it is a toilet. How or why has the problem of toilets not been addressed for the drivers? The pissing is constant, the stench horendous. "Thainess"?.

Posted

I didn't know it was the drivers, I thought it was just the homeless people who sleep there, but yes, walking to the market on a morning when the sun is on the steps is stomach turning.

Our balcony overlooks the steps, and the homeless people are the only ones I ever see on them apart from Loi Krathong night. It really could be developed into somewhere nice to sit along the river without having to cross over the bridge; this side of the river is a nicer option with plenty of shade, but perhaps a walk too far for many especially in the current heat. Riversides are done up and promoted in cities all over the world for both locals and tourists, so much could be done here with very little effort, and it wouldn't take much money to put a public toilet near the sluice gates.

Today is actually the hottest I've been inside my house this season, it's 6:30 and now the inside temp is 34 degrees, matches the outside air temp.

No I can't remember anything similar here, yes I'm suffering with it all but I'm actually more concerned about the rest of the year and how it might be!

40 c currently in my upstairs study/office at 6.42 pm ,with just a fan .Loving it .

That's a little strange....blink.png but whatever...... To each their own.

43 at my place in Sansai today.

Same where I live. 5.45pm and starting to cool down a bit, now 38 that feels like an ice age compared to temperatures this afternoon. We were all huddled in one of our bedrooms with the air con blasting away and praying there wouldn`t be a power cut. I wonder what tomorrow has in store for us?

The water supply is of concern. At this rate who can tell how long supplies will last. I have plastic water storage bins all over the house and had a large concrete storage tank built outdoors with pond pumps flowing the water so it doesn`t stagnate. If the water goes we are good for about 2 months. Remember I forecast this last January when we experienced the coldest temperatures here for many years and since have renewed all my air con units and bought water cooled fan units.

Don`t leave things all to luck, get prepared, sooner is better than later.

Water cuts are already here. In Sansai they cut the pressure by 50-60% every night now for about 5 months; from about 22:30-07:00. Yesterday, no water 9:00-13:00. Water cuts were even longer in Saraphi and San Khampaeng. There were power cuts all over the city as well.

We have been blasting 2-3 A/C's 18-20 hours per day in this heat.

If you go to C.M. Airport you will see 2-3 of these airplanes packed with gear and ready to go. But the problem is that there are no clouds to seed. We spoke with one of the airmen specialists a few of weeks ago and he said they have been here in C.M. since early March waiting all day, ever day, for their orders. But still, conditions are not right.

EDIT: Between me doing the screen shot, adding the arrow, cropping and posting, it's gone up to 42.1 degrees, but still only feels like 48 blink.png

EDIT 2: And while I was editting that it went up to feeling like 49, the page is still open and when I closed this on both times I spotted it.

Hehe true, the heat feels amazing when you step outside from starbucks at central festival, they run the aircon pretty darn cold

Tmd.go.th were forecasting thunder showers all last week and for the coming seven days, hoping they will get it right one of the days perhaps?

Farcical, associated with TAT and their tourism forecasts I guess!
