BANGKOK — Authorities today said they will investigate whether any resident in Thailand named in a recent massive leak of information about offshore assets has broken any laws.

Police Col. Seehanart Prayoonrat, head of the Anti-Money Laundering Office, or AMLO, said Wednesday his agency counts 637 names in the leaked documents from Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, which was made public in its entirety on Tuesday.

The government to investigate Central?......Who are they trying to kid?

Another remark off the cuff which will never happen!

Investigate them? No, never, surely: they are the very best of "the good people" who were so supportive of efforts to rid Thailand of that wicked clan that had led the country down the wrong path ( aka a path that didn't lead to offshore tax shelters in a Central American banana republic)

Because he did not need to as a PM he made sure that he did not have to pay tax on the sale of his telecom company. Why put things in a tax haven if you can just change the law so you don't have to pay any tax.

Don't expect too much news on this matter in the next 30 years. Thailand....all talk, no action !

I was even amazed that this was made public. Could be a lawsuit by Central in the making. Besmurching their good name.

Yeah, so they have added the new data to the Offshore Leaks page.

Even if they do investigate, they will not find very much, the people setting these offshore companies up, ie the lawyers and accountants are a lot smarter than any goverment agency investigating them

Yet another disingenuous Thai pledge.

Probably just a typo. What they meant was :

' Pledge to protect any wealthy Thais mentioned in the Panama papers ........ unless they have criticized the government, are red shirt sympathizers or have ever had a cup of coffee with Thaksin.'

Meanwhile the Australian Taxation Office is sabre rattling too. Even our current illegitimate PM gets a mention in the papers! He is in good company though. The best.

But like everything in the world today .... Maybe with a bit of hard work, and good luck, Somchai the Som Tum vender will get audited.

this sort of sums things up. An oldie but a goodie. Nothing changes.

But, of course, there is a link to him (or at least his clan) in the Panama Papers: his brother-in-law, and co-conspirator in the Ratchadaphisek land purchase fraud case...

In the interests of reconciliation start with any/all associated with the red shirts/TRT/PTP.

Once they are arrested/convicted/imprisoned the statute of limitations will have expired on any yellows/dems/elites.

Reconciliation is so easy.
