PM appreciative of US understanding of Thai politics

BANGKOK, 13 May 2016 (NNT) – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has clarified to a representative of the United States that his administration complies with human rights principles and expressed gratitude for the country’s understanding of the Thai political situation.

Adm Dennis Blair, Chairman of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA, paid a courtesy call on Gen Prayut at Government House for a discussion on several topics. Deputy Government Spokesman Maj Gen Weerachon Sukontapatipak, who accompanied Gen Prayut during the meeting, revealed that the premier assured Adm Blair of the government’s adherence to the law and human rights principles when making arrests and taking judicial proceedings against law breakers. He insisted that citizens are guaranteed full freedom of expression within the legal framework.

As for the national reform process, Gen Prayut confirmed that general elections will take place in 2017 as stipulated by the roadmap. He also gave details on the guidelines for various areas of reform and said any advice from the US would be welcome.

Maj Gen Weerachon pointed out that Adm Blair has extensive experience both in the military and the administrative branch and thus already has a clear picture of Thailand’s reform process. During the discussion, Adm Blair showed his awareness of political developments in Thailand as well as the reasoning behind the military takeover of the administration. He also expressed his confidence that the Prime Minister will be able to overcome all impending challenges.

My partner who is an educated thai says Thais are told the international community are 100% behind the government and the arrests of people "" rocking the boat""

No mention of questions placed just days ago at a UN summit against such human rights concerns.LM & AA

The broadcast was also not widely reported.

Her family in rural areas are under the impression they are basically alone and we don't care much about their plight.

Fear is rampant and opinions now hushed.

AA mixed with the above statements suggest not only what they are doing to be right , but that we are somehow fully cooperative in their insidious injustices.

If the United States does not make main stream press clarification within hours or days in this endless cycle , then the junta spin doctors have scored yet another goal.

It's really time for a position that can't be denied and manipulated .

Try saying we are appalled or use diplomatic terminology that the Thai media can translate and tell ordinary Thais they are not alone

PM Prayut appreciates US understanding of Prayut own version military control over the whole population for self benefit, wealth and control.

Yes, the US military has a history of such understanding and usually assists with the removal of such knuckleheads.

You couldn't make this depth of utter delusion - or baldfaced lies - up if you tried. And this a day after the US slammed Thailand in the UN.

There were questions from Britain,Spain, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Poland, Australia and a number of other countries as well as the US.

From their website:

"Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA is an independent American non-profit, non-partisan institution devoted to research, analysis and better understanding of the U.S.-Japan relationship".

Whilst it may well be an admirable organisation, it has nothing to do with US or any other governments policy towards the junta and its antics.

It's chairman is a retired US Navy Admiral. The key word is retired.

Such Negativity so early in the morning. It is indeed good that a US representative of the Sawsakawa NGO understands Thailand.

What this has to do with US - Thailand Governmental Relations is anyones guess, as The Sawsakawa Peace Foundation has nothing to do with the US Government. OOOOps didn't get that from the headline did you.

It does however lobby the US Governement with a noted right wing bent, as befits an organization named for a Conservative Japanese right wing businessman Ryoichi Sasawkawa

"guaranteed full freedom of expression within the legal military framework". Therein lies the problem. thumbsup.gif

Spot on mate.

Unfortunately "the legal framework" is one of freedom of expression only if you do not criticize the PM the junta or the draft, etc etc etc apart from that you can say anything you like, whistling.gif

As for a nothing to do with the US government organization understanding the situation in LOS, ________!!!

Now get a US official to publicly come out with that statement. Good lu.ck

Maybe you should print hard copies of reports like this and let Thais distribute them among themselves. Either that, or rent a plane and do a leaflet drop.

Davies reiterates US concerns over rights

THE PRAYUT government yesterday remained adamant on its stance over human-rights protection and the lese majeste law while US Ambassador to Thailand Glyn Davies repeated calls for Thailand to open wider space for the public for discussion.
Davies said the junta's intimidation of political activists and families have raised extreme concerns about Thai commitment to freedom of expression. The US is worried about the limitation of basic freedom, the right of expression as well as the right for political gathering besides the trial of civilians in a military court, he said.
Davies was speaking after his meeting with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai at the ministry. The Thai Foreign Ministry had earlier said that Don had "invited" Davies to meet with him, but Don later claimed that the meeting was a routine one and Davies had initiated it.

One startling fact that the Prayut one has forgotten, and being an astute general or so he tells us , he should know that not only the US embassy but all the other good embassy's report, discuss , have daily conferences between each other and daily communication at leadership level between countries , what they talk about is anybody's guess , but I can't see the present US Secretary of State or the OZ foreign Minister Bishop, having anything but dislike for not only Prayut- O but the Junta as a whole and like us would be rather septical of these comments.....................................coffee1.gif

The US should focus on its own problems. They are far from perfect but keep telling the world how to do things.

Finally the "they should mind their own business as they themselves are not perfect" post . It's such a compelling argument!

The post does not declare that Denis Blair agreed with the the general's statements in any way.

Dennis probably understands Thai politics extremely well which would mean he would definitely disagree with the statements made in the story.

Nickymaster, this is the Sasakawa Non Govermental Organization. It has nothing to do with the Government of the United States of America. In fact its funding comes from Japanese Business interests.

Lets not lose the plot this early in the day, although maybe it's night whever you post from Heh! Keep trolling Dude, Keep it real.

See post #20. So you better read all posts before commenting. You accuse me of trolling when in fact you are the one doing it. Reminds me of the US. Edited by Nickymaster
