Hi everybody,

I am a UK citizen who has been here for about 21 months on business, retirement and, now, a tourist visa. I am returning to the UK 3 weeks after my 3 month tourist visa runs out (later than anticipated). I have an airticket back to the UK. How is it best to stay the last 3 weeks? Have I any chance of 3 weeks at Chaengwattana? Should I go there get 1 week and rely on a 2 week re-entry at Aranyaprathet? Or should I take the arduous trek to Savannakhet and get a second tourist visa flashing my return air ticket? Advice would be welcome.Thank you in advance.

  • If you have already extended your 60 day tourist visa by 30 days then you will have to leave the country unless you're married or are a parent. The most you could get at CW would be an extra 7 days.

If you have a UK passport you could do a border hop (out/in) and get a 30 day visa exempt entry. Available at most but not all land borders.

You can extend the tourist visa entry once by 30 days at an immigration office. If you have already done that all you will get from immigration is 7 days during which you must leave the country.

A 30 day visa exempt entry, which can be extended by another 30 days, can be obtained either by flying to a nearby country and returning of by leaving the country via a land border and returning.

My understanding was that land borders only give a 2 week visa on arrival. What is the case at the Aranyaprathet/Poipet border? (UK passport holder).

  • As you are from the UK you get 30 days visa exempt entry at land borders.
  • You can do an out/in visa exempt entry at Poipet. Note: They have a limit of a total of 90 days per year.

You will get 30 days due to the G7 country rule that started in November of 2013.
