BANGKOK: -- Thousands of electric train commuters were stranded at Silom and Siam stations when BTS train service on Silom Route was disrupted after a failure in rail shunting.

BTS spokesman said the service disruption occurred at 8.20 am but was restored 10 minutes later.

Service was back to normal after the problem was fixed, the BTS said.

Earlier in the morning JS100 traffic radio reported the service disruption on the Silom Route at 8.30 am today after its audience posted on its Twitter complaining of late arrivals of BTS trains on the Silom Route.

They complained that the Silom and Siam stations were jampacked when trains did not arrive on schedule.

But the station later reported that the service was back to normal before 9 am.
