PHUKET: -- Pol Col Kantawat Pongsatabordee has yet to arrive on the island to take up his new post as Superintendent of the Phuket Immigration Office, as he has yet to clear his desk in Bangkok.

“I am still in Bangkok clearing my work here,” Col Kantawat told The Phuket News in a brief phone call this morning (May 24).

“I will be heading to Phuket soon,” he added, but did not clarify when he expected to arrive on the island.

An official order published in the Royal Gazette on May 17 mandated that Col Kantawat was to formally take office in Phuket last Thursday (May 17).

He was transferred to Phuket from his post as Chief of the Immigration Bureau’s Information Technology Centre in Bangkok.

Seems like a great time for the expats to celebrate all the great things about Phuket...

If there are any?

After all, Immigration guidelines, and requirements should be at the top of any expats list,

when thinking of where to lay their heads, eh?

But the expats there,

just figure they will fall like they are used to...

inline and proceed to comply with whatever thrown at them.

I can hear it now...I'll just give them old data, to old accounts,

so I can be on my way.

Yet if this branch can get people to comply,

then they'll certainly inform the other branches around the country...

see it's not that hard to get expats to give up all of their personal data,

about themselves, after all they love to be social.

I got out of that unwelcomed,

overpriced, so called paradise back in 2003,

and I've never regretted it.

Even then though,

Immigration was by far the most difficult to work through,

and it was made clear, foreigners planning to stay for long periods,

should be warned...

they would need to pay their dues,

and stay quiet about it.

What a strange post !

I have lived here for a long time and have never experienced a problem with immigration. The only "dues" I have paid are the official, mandated fee 1900 Bht for an extension and 1000/3800 for a reentry permit (The cost depending on whether a single or multi reentry permit is bought)

I am not alone.

waylaid, i thought somebody had beaten him up and robbed him, welcome to Phuket. Shouldn't that be delayed?

Waylaid......

I was always of the believe the use of that word, at least here in Thailand, meant a person was sidetracked or delayed by Bimbos and Bar girls ...lol

Cheers

Too busy designing a new intrusive form for foreigners in Phuket to complete ?

The recently introduced form here in Phuket contains three pages to be completed but at this stage only people extending their exemption extension or tourist visa, i.e not for any long term visa holders.

I'm told that the volunteers there are refusing to complete the forms for any visitor, English speaking or otherwise, and apart from handing out the forms tell the visitor to take it with their application to a Thai officer. Just imagine the chaos in the coming high season starting around October. gigglem.gif
