BANGKOK, 26 May 2016 (NNT) - THAIFEX-World of Food Asia 2016 will kick off at Impact Muang Thong Thani this Saturday. The event aims to increase distribution channels for food manufacturers in Thailand.

Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said after presiding over the opening ceremony that the Thai food industry is the best in the world. The event was organized under a joint effort between the Department of International Trade Promotion, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Koelnmesse GmbH and the private sector.

THAIFEX-World of Food Asia 2016 is expected to generate nine billion baht in sales volume this year, one billion baht more than last year. The Deputy Prime Minister attributed the sales growth to improving economic conditions of Thailand’s trading partners.

Those interested in the event are advised to visit the fair from May 28 - 29. It will be open from 10:00am to 8:00pm at Impact Exhibition Center Hall 1-4 and Challenger Hall 1-3.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the fair hopes raise the competitiveness of Thai food producers in the global market. As for Thai exports, the sector will likely to remain susceptible to the global economy. Dr. Somkid urged Thai exporters to help meet the government's export growth target of 5% this year by seeking new markets and introducing new products that cater to current demand.

...delivering a smacking slap to the faces of 80% of the exhibitors, as they are foreign companies who booked expensive booths at the expo to showcase their food products.

One of the reasons why German exhibition organizer Koelnmesse GmbH is involved is because they handled booth bookings from European food manufacturing companies who wished to attend ThaiFEX.

BANGKOK: -- Thailand aims to become the world's leader in food exports with target for 10% growth in the average 800 billion baht food export value a year.

This was declared by Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak at the opening of “THAIFEX-World of Food Asia”,at Challenger, Muangthong Thani, Bangkok yesterday.

He said Thailand exported food to over 200 countries with five food exports among the world’s highest in export values.

They are rice, processed chicken, canned seafood, processed seafood, and food flavour which amounted to get 800 billion baht average annually.

He said Thailand’s strength in the food industry are of its great variety of raw materials and highly experienced producers.

But as about 45 per cent of Thai food exports are unprocessed raw materials, more modern technology and more innovation will be promoted to add value to its food export and decrease the proportion in near future.

Where do you get the "80% of the exhibitors ... are foreign companies"? I've been to this expo several times and that's not what I see. Actually most of the foreign exhibitors are selling food processing and packaging equipment and supplies, although some do sell food products.

have been to thaifex many times. i have interest and background in coffee, keep abreast with recent technology. very frustrating to see the latest tech espresso machines at thai booths and typically they do not know the technology albeit an occasional employee. example; ask if it is heat exchange or dual boiler? rotary or vibration pump. PID? very very basic stuff that i have never seen a non thai exhibitor fail to know (including HK, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, etc)

please note i can speak fairly well and read also so i ask them in their native language.

than come the thai companies promoting their great coffee beans. most of them do not know if they have a blend or a single origin. often when you ask about origin after hesitation they reply "arabica" then when you inform them arabica is grown in dozens of countries they get more confused. seldom do you hear "i dont know" which is a lot better than making things up along the way.
