PHUKET: -- A power cable mysteriously burst into flames in Patong this morning.

Stunned passersby watched as bright yellow flames erupted from the power cable outside the Sea View House on Nanai Road just before midday.

Residents feared the flames would spread to nearby buildings and called the fire brigade.

"Mysteriously" Yeah, ok.

I am sure they are looking very intensively for the mystery and using the water hose to extinguish is of course the best solution.

the 20th and 21st century came too fast for Thai maintenance.

Maintaining a cart behind a buffalo for centuries, then suddenly in one generation they're supposed to manage electricity.

Still, at least they're really open to learning new ways, and not taking half-ars3d short-cuts.

I've witnessed the power cables on our road catching fire on at least 2 occassions. Just the insulation burning, soon went out, PEO did nothing other than look.

Can someone point to the power cable?

Any threads on internet problems in Patong today? whistling.gif

Water hose on an electrical fire. Are they taught anything at all about safety?

They do Moronic real good

Surely that hose pipe they are holding does not contain water? There again TIT so it probably is

Most obvious cause would be that the cable was overloaded.

Most obvious cause would be that the cable was overloaded. Alternatively it could be a connection to something that has been badly made and overheated and moved to fire

The firemen are trying to be the latest on the Darwin List.

Sent a copy of the firemen photo to a friend in the UK

He is a health and safety officer, just now received a reply.

It read what the f... are those idiots doing.

My friend reckons he will use that photo in 1 of his seminars, asking what is wrong with this photo.

Perhaps the lines were isolated, maybe.

Nothing mysterious about that, nothing at all. An inevitable consequensce of too many coils too close together.
