gandalf12
Denying some of the charges should increase his sentence by a good 15 years
jamesbrock
Denying some of the charges should increase his sentence by a good 15 years I was going to write the same thing. If confessing and pleading guilty gets one a lesser sentence, then denying inarguable facts should have the opposite effect.

If confessing and pleading guilty gets one a lesser sentence, then denying inarguable facts should have the opposite effect. Exactly. They do that in the UK. Confess and you will get a lighter sentence. Deny and you get the maximum sentence. Glad you like my post, at least there are some sensible people around. jaltsc
"Cloaked in a monk's robe, Jenphop Viraporn stepped into a court..." He brings shame to every decent monk who has ever worn the saffron robe. That they allow this farcical charade to go on says a lot about how skewed the legal system is in favoring those with money. He killed two innocent people who were obeying the law. He was speeding, and was most likely dead drunk. No amount of showmanship and phony acts of sorrow will cleanse his dirty soul. "Krisada, the public prosecutor, said Jenphop’s status as a Buddhist holy man would not affect the trial." But his status of coming from a wealthy and influential family sure as hell will. z42
He is what he is; an arrogant pathetic shitty scumbag hiding behind robes. Beautifully put. This scummy sub human should get a seriously hefty sentence if he is denying. But by being so brazen is the justice system going to allow him to fix it how he wants. I am pretty sure there will be a big backlash from this if he does by some miracle beat the charges
worgeordie
He must be innocent,he's wearing monk's robes ,the big IF is will the court see past all the B/S and give him what he deserves a long prison stretch, after all 2 young people died a terrible death. regards worgeordie
docshock13
"Although Jenphops family initially said he would only stay in the monkhood for two weeks, his uncle, Charoen Yodkaewlah, told reporters today that he decided to continue his religious retreat for an unspecified amount of time." Seems this POS has taken a page out of Ol' Dhammachayo's book. Seems to be working for the abbot, so why not?

Seems this POS has taken a page out of Ol' Dhammachayo's book. Seems to be working for the abbot, so why not? All he has to do now is to claim he's come down with deep vein thrombosis, then faint a couple of times prior to his next court appointment, and he'll be off the hook. Scouse Twoccer
He can he contest the charges??? The arrogant sod killed 2 innocent people. It's called the legal system and he will undoubtedly be receiving serious legal advice about what to say and how to plead. You did choose to ignore this bit though, didn't you?..."...Jenphop confessed to a lesser charge of fatal reckless driving rather than vehicular manslaughter while under the influence." Prbkk
It won't be long before we see a farang try this monk caper after an arrest and the feigned contrition implied. It worked once for a low rent Australian model on drug charges in Indonesia: she appeared in court and announced her conversion to Islam, wearing the garb, got an incredibly light sentence. A Muslim for about 30 minutes.
