BMA unclogs sewer pipes and canals to prevent flooding

BANGKOK, 6 June 2016 (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has reportedly ensured the flood preparedness of the capital's risk zones ahead of the rainy season.

Bangkok Deputy Governor Amorn Kitchawengkul visited Vibhavadi Soi 45 over the weekend to observe dredging operations being conducted at Khlong Lad Ped canal by the Department of Drainage and Sewerage, in collaboration with the Lat Phrao and Don Mueang District Offices.

The road in front of Vibhavadi Soi 45 is among 19 spots in the capital that are prone to seasonal flooding. A sewage truck and three water pumps were deployed to the National Memorial, which is located on Vibhavadi Road, to drain sewer pipes.

The construction of a water pumping system is now underway near Khlong Lad Ped, where water will be diverted another canal, Khlong Prem Prachakorn.

To further prevent flooding, the BMA is also planning to build a water pump station and a dam over Khlong Lad Ped. The project will cost 300 million baht and is expected to complete construction in two years.

No thoughts about buillding a reservoir(s) to save some of this water for days of drought ?

Oh I forgot, despite the fact there is drought and floods every year, every year the authorities still get taken by surprise.
