SONGKHLA: Police and soldiers raided a casino near the Thai-Malaysian border Saturday arresting 224 gamblers.

Some 134 Thais and 90 Malaysians were charged with gambling without permission while 2.3 million baht was seized by the 50 strong raiding party that included DSI representatives.

Customers were playing Baccarat, Roulette and Pok 8 Pok 9, a card game, in two rooms of a rented building in Ban Dan Nork of Sadao district, Songkhla.

Investigators understand that the operation was organized jointly by both Thais and Malaysians and investigations are underway to get to those behind the organization of the casino. It is thought to have been operating only a few days.

Guess the necessary cash did not flow to the right people, or treading on somebody's turf.

An interesting town, Dannok. Run by the Malaysian Chinese mafia, usually pretty smoothly but it seems 'misunderstandings' can still happen. Worth a visit for anyone who wants a glimpse of the old anything-goes SE Asia. But you do want to behave yourself.

The Army would have to be involved as the bib would not have busted a large gambling joint own their own because they are paid off monthly to stay away.
