It seems you were charged 500 bah to have your stamps transferred to a new passport. There have been reports of some offices charging the same amount.

Just come back from CW from my 90 day report. There was none of these information requests such as email etc that have been talked about just the same form as always. No additional items to be paid for nothing. Was in and out within 15 minutes. The Immigration people were extremely helpful.

Just posting this for information.

In which case it is a 'standard' charge (not on the list and no receipt).

Many posts about it in the UK passport threads.

Playing devil's advocate - why shouldn't they charge, they are providing a service and it is unreasonable to expect their work to go unrewarded. Same applies to the residence certificates.

I suggest that if the fee was incorporated into their scale of charges there would be no issue.

yes i agree that this charge along with a residence letter should carry a charge, but it should be incorporated on the scale board so we know it goes to immigration not in someones POCKET.

You have been around long enough to understand that principles in Thailand count for Jack............... AND.. it is the same 500 Baht of yours anyway, wherever it finishes up.

Interesting, last time I got a new passport, they just stapled my old passport to my old one... no charge ..

Next report for one year extension based on retirement, will be in September, It'll be interesting to see what they do this time, as I will have another new passport.

A little off topic, but when I get more details I will make a new post as to the outcome.

A friend on Friday, went to Samui Immigration to renew his one year retirement extension, and was told he to get a medical certificate from the hospital... He duly did that and paid 1600 baht for getting that done... He gets back to Immigration after 3 pm and told he has to come back Monday. He lives on Koh Phangan, so that was a huge expense to make the trip twice... (Moral partly of that don't do immigration on a Friday, as it's always the worse day anyway! )

Not yet run into anyone else having to do this medical certificate.... for the yearly renewal of the extension .... I would have thought it would be front page news!

I went to Immigration in Jomtien and paid 500 for a fast service, otherwise it was come back the next afternoon, fair enough, it was quick and I was in a hurry.

thats a new one SJ.i have never owed 1bht.in over 30yrs.if its in black and white.but when they [imm.officers] cant look you in the face when demanding money from you that really pisses me off.if they gave me a 10yr.extension stamp and charged me the thai price double 40k.i would be fine with that,as not having to go out on these roads would be a blessing.

on the other visa section someone asked why he had to do photo copies of every page in his old passport, once it has been cut it is no longer valid, well i had to do this today and was told i got to do it again when my next extension comes around.

as the saying goes SERVICE WITH A biggrin.png

I recall reading about Samui and medical requirement already before your post. If I'm not mistaken the first medical even was rejected, and the poster had to go to a different clinic.

You know that they get a salary for "doing their job"? Plus they get all the benefits that go with being a civil servant, so not sure where you get the word "unrewarded" from.

Not talking about remuneration.

Every service carries a fee (and should be included on a tariff) - why should immigration do something for you for free. Only a sponger would expect that.

There is no fee for transferring Immigration stamps.

If you are charged it is a scam.

Unfortunately it's true. Friends today reported being sent to the Govt Hospital for an hour of intrusive medical checks @ THB 750-ish each. Others have had their Maps rejected & directed to Herbert$ despite those same maps being fine in previous years.

There's something going on there...

Really, I never recall having to pay the fireman/policeman/ambulance worker an extra fee for doing the job they are paid to do.

Immigration does not charge a fee for transfer of stamps to a new PP. If in doubt always insist on a receipt for any payment. If you are told that a receipt is not issued for that service politely ask to see the OIC.

Public servants in full Govt Livery would be jailed elsewhere if they doctored their trousers along the lines of those worn during The Great Escape!

My friend just dropped by and is going to post his experience ... (I asked him to start new topic) or he may do on the Samui forum... (?)

Seems they are asking for full medical with blood and urine tests... which needs to be done at a hospital ...

All too bad as Samui Immigration had much improved over the last couple of years, for many, although personally I have never had a problem...
