There is no law that says you must carry the car/bike book with you. In fact, that would be a dumb thing to do.

But, the police are allowed to ask for proof of ownership. That could be a photocopy of the book. Even better, carry the registration receipt from Land Transport. It is an original and it has the owner's name on it.

Dunno on the law but I always carry a copy of Green book in the car and under the seat of bikes. Can't hurt at 1 baht a copy eh. Yes, once a BIB has asked to see it.

It happened to me and it cost me money because I didn't have in vehicle. That was up here in Issan. I didn't have a clue as to what the cop was talking about until he showed me a sample copy of the page needed. Yea, it was at home but wife never put in truck. Copy in there now. Bank has original until vehicle is paid off. Yes, you have to have copy.

I think that in every country one must have the vehicle papers in the vehicle. In some countries it must be the original. In Thailand a copy is OK as long as you have the first page (all vehicle details) the current owner's name page and the page showing the yearly tax.

Every country I have driven in I have had a copy of the vehicle registration and a copy of the insurance certificate. I would consider this to be normal

I keep a up-to-date copy of all my important documents in my dropbox. When I went to hospital last time for dengue fever, I sent the copy of my password from my phone via dropbox->email->hospital and they where happy. Once I made a cop happy by showing the pic of my PCX' green book in the dropbox on the mobile. If you got the technology then use it. (Google Drive works as well, and there lots of other cloud services.)

+1 to keep a copy of the book in the vehicle (maybe harder if you are on something like a D-tracker though).

Personally, I would never keep an original book with a vehicle for several reasons.

Previously at various checkpoints I have only ever had the army/cops whatever look for the rego sticker...but it seems things are changing.

I guess it is a bit like foreigners, who are supposed to have a copy of their passport on them at all times (or a Thai licence etc.)
