Heavy traffic causes about 200 passengers to miss flight as weatherman predicts more rains in Bangkok in the evening

BANGKOK -- About 200 air passengers missed flights at Don Meuang airport this morning (Tuesday) due to heavy traffic as a result of heavy downpour during the early hours of the day.

Mr Petch Chuncharoen, director of Don Meuang airport, said traffic is most parts of Bangkok was bad especially on the Vibhavadi Rangsit road which was also partially flooded, hence causing many passengers to get stuck in their cars and unable to catch their flights.

However, he said that most of the passengers who missed their flights were allowed to change their tickets for the next flights but had to pay some fees.

The situation returned to normal at about 10 am.

The Meteorological Department, meanwhile, predicted rains in 70 percent of Bangkok this evening until tomorrow but the rains would not be as heavy as they were during the early hours of Tuesday.

People living in the eastern part of Bangkok, southern, eastern, lower northeastern and central regions were told to brace for continuous rains. Fishermen and sailors were warned not to going out in the Andaman Sea due to high waves averaging two metres.

The government is concerned with flooding in the city during the rainy season and has instructed the City Hall to install more water pumps to drain out excess water from roads while traffic police were instructed to try to speed up traffic flow and to help repair or tow away malfunctioned cars.
