Registering a vehicle without the owner

Featured Replies

I've got a nice '87 Honda Accord my friend left in my care when he returned to S.A. a couple of years ago. Now I can't get in touch with him and I want this car in my name because It owes me so much. Is this possible without his help? I have all the documents anyway but without his signature or whatever.

Ideas?

No. You need his signature.

And that will hopefully not change blink.png

Wouldn't love to have my car sold without my consent bah.gif

and a 'signature' in arabic letters is going to protect you from that here in thailand?

i'm sure the op could do a perfect imitation of his friends signature without anyone noticing the difference.

not suggesting he should, ok? no emoticon added...

He cant. If the friend were here he'd have to use either power of attorney or accompany him to DLT, with copy of passport and visa. Since he is in SA he has to go to Thai embassy there and prove with passport his identity.

At the end off the day does it matter? I can insure it so does it really make any difference if i leave it in his name?

best of luck with that if you have an accident. you can do anything you like here of course. the problems start when things go wrong, such as accidents

The only thing you have to do is to keep the car as it is described in the blue book.

For example you can't paint it blue if it's written "Red" in book or change the exhauster for a louder one... At the annual technical inspection they check if the car is in accordance with the blue book. If it's not, you have to register the changes in book and that can do only the owner who's name is in the book...

Even in case of accident there will be no problem. I mean problem about the name in book different of the driver's name.

There could be problems only if the car is listed as stolen... but it isn't, is it? tongue.png

Also in case of an accident there will be no problems.
