SADAO: -- Police and customs at the Malaysian border arrested two men for smuggling after their expensively outfitted van was found to contain 190 kilos of krathom leaves.

Officers found the fancy vehicle stuffed with drugs in the roof, panels and seats, reported Daily News.

Driver Sophon Suwannarat, 39, said he had been hired for 1000 baht by passenger Yeemut Wayeekor to drive the vehicle from Malaysia and had no idea what it contained. Yeemut told Sadao customs that that he had received 1000 baht also to bring the drugs across and this was the first time - a story that they didn't accept.

They believe that he is a regular smuggler and that the expensively outfitted van was used to deceive customs who usually find krathom leaves in cars and pick-ups. This was the first time they had seen such an operation, they said.

Both were handcuffed together and pictured with the haul ahead of being charged.

....1000 baht....what a joke.....

...do you really expect criminals to tell you the truth.....

...or almost anyone else here for that matter...

...according to a survey last year...almost 90% of respondents deemed it 'okay' to lie or cheat......
