BANGKOK, 3 July 2016 (NNT) – The Prime Minister says if the current draft constitution is voted down, a new one will be written.

Prime Minister and head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) Gen Prayut Cha-o-cha has urged all eligible voters to come out and exercise their rights on August 7th which is when the nationwide public referendum takes place.

In the event that the proposed constitution is rejected, he said a new one will be written or the current one will be revised.

He asserted that the government has always played by the rules while asking all sides to be extra cautious when consuming new information.

He also promised to exercise patience when performing his duties in order to steer the country in the direction of lasting prosperity.

He further warned ill-intentioned people to refrain from making any comments that could breach the referendum act, while stressing that everyone is entitled to their own opinion as long as those opinions are in compliance with the legal framework.

Huh?? I sincerely hope something was lost in translation or the "PM" is even more delusional than I feared.

He wants it his way. If you do not accept this one he will ask for another and another until he gets his way. Also as long as their is no character he is still in charge.

So it looks like his stay as PM,could go on a bit longer, like a few more years.

Well, there's no opposition to his rule. I guess the masses will have to eat cake until a worthy opponent arises. Seems Thaksin has left it too long, still, history has shown when the opportunity is right power can be seized from the strongest of regime's, but I don't see this happening any time soon in Los.

I'm sure there's no rush Mr. PM, well not for you anyway.

I understand your favourite song these days is ' Time Is On My side ' but is it ?

'Everyone is entitled to their own opinion' - as long as that opinion is kept locked up inside their head and not freely proclaimed up and down the land amongst the people - oh, unless it is a big 'Yes' vote for the Constitution! That is OK, of course.

So question....and this is mostly due to my lazy ass not having bothered anything whatsoever reading into everything relating to this specific thing....

Assume "we" accept that draft and blabla and eventually a properly elected PM gets to have a job again, can said PM them "throw everything out the window" again if demand and needs are there or will there be a writing in small print stating that he will become ruler of the world or some lunatic stuff?

Seems as if just going along with his schtick, have him step down asap and then have the next person just turn "everything" around and 'in your face' him would be a nice parting gift.

The present PM and his military government will remain in power for the foreseeable future . Creating new charters and holding public referendums , does show the international community that every effort is being made to return Thailand to democracy , at the same insuring that it doesn't . Try returning to the 1997 Constitution unaltered , that would probably win approval in a referendum .

or the current one will be revised

Not much effort or time to change the date of the charter and get NLA, etc. endorsement.

Elections can still follow the NCPO roadmap timetable for 2017.

I will patiently steer the country in the direction of the money. Now, where is my compass?

Right from this Charters inception , The Junta has indicated that it may be rejected , no one more so than the Un Elected PM himself , there has been doubts and rightly so , most will vote either in support of or against the Junta not the constitution, that's a farce if you are talking about constitution's , so why try introduce a constitution that will be rejected , wasting more money, time and people's patience , obviously there should also be a plebiscite added to the referendum , do you want the Junta in power , Yes or No , then you will know who is voting which way , obviously being a junta you don't and it wouldn't be expected of you to respect the majority of the democratic population if the No vote romped home , but at least you will know there is not happiness in the population , at least not with the Junta, of course there is always the Yes vote that may pass the post , the world's your oyster as they say.......................................coffee1.gif

That can't happen because there is a provision in the charter to set up a 'Politburo' of the 'Good People' who can overturn any decision made by the next government which is not to their liking.

The next government will have about as much authority as a parish council.

I understand that the draft has the military retaining a level of power for the next 20 years.......so yes....you're right.

With a 250 member senate hand picked by the military, this constitution will be near impossible to change.

"My opinion rules, okay?"

What a way for a Prime Minister to behave...

It's an embarrassment, and shows his yearning for approval and admiration.

Thing is politics lack ethics in Thailand. I means its about the power and then making as much money as you can for yourself. Until this mindset changes nothing will change. Thus i have very little hope for democracy in Thailand. Next 'democratic' government will abuse its power and the army will step in again. So please keep ranting on about democracy; an ideal that is unachievable.

And the military is any cleaner? Puh-leaze. They have done zero meaningful reform. Under the current rule, transparency is at an all-time low, the generals have given themselves amnesty, huge government purchases are being made or planned, so corruption opportunities have never been better.

Revisit the 1997 constitution, close some loopholes, and let the system clean itself up over time.

So choices:

- You take this one cos I like it...

- You don't take it I have another one I like...

- You don't take it we can make another one I like...

You can have an opinion if you like it like I do...

Seems we are in for many more boring Friday night shows...

Aha, and therein lies the rub! He did not say what rules, certainly not the same rules that most of us are forced to play bywhistling.gif

Me, I was thinking "Go on, son - crack him with a good left on the jaw and see how hard he is when someone is hitting him back..."
