Vlad1975 Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Hi. I recently moved in Phuket and would like to buy a car. It seems to be really hard to find second hand cars here in Phuket.... Any suggestions? Im looking for a hatchback 4wd or a hatchback off road. Dont wanna spend over 150k for now. I dont mind brand or anything as long as it has automatic gear. Appreciate any help thank you, Vlad.
LivinginKata Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 (edited) Best of luck with spending 150k. Second hand cars are expensive here in Phuket. Forget second hand dealers. Look in online classifieds, been looking myself for a few months, not much available. Edited July 5, 2016 by LivinginKata

Psimbo Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Best of luck with spending 150k. Second hand cars are expensive here in Phuket. Forget second hand dealers. Look in online classifieds, been looking myself for a few months, not much available. I agree with your first sentence, disagree with your third. Based on recommendations from friends I purchased a vehicle from Sure Motors, near the Prison (not to be confused with Toyota Sure). The also have a second showroom near the first lights north of Heroines. Their main salesman speaks very good English. They have a website where one can search for available vehicles and can also source requirements when asked I got more than I expected for my old truck in part exchange, and they sorted out all the vehicle paperwork with the PLTO, even sorting a copy of my Resident Permit at Immigration. its far easier than the foreigner to foreigner transfer I had to do with the first vehicle I bought, even with a local lady providing assistance. A small fault found within the first month was addressed straight away and dealt with free of charge. it also took out the worry of finding a possible outstanding HP loan agreement on the vehicle, which has happened to others. Since then others have purchased on my recommendation and have been quite happy with their service. In a small circle of acquaintances its about ten vehicles in all so I think its a reasonable endorsement. (Not sure if I am allowed to put the name of the company above- if it has to be removed people can contact me by PM)
Psimbo Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 Do you think id have more luck in Bangkok? PM'd you with a link as I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it. Online research will help your search but your price expectations are not realistic.
LivinginKata Posted July 6, 2016 Posted July 6, 2016 ^ I bought my first 2 cars from Sure a lot of years ago. My comment was about finding a vehicle for 150,000 baht from a second hand dealer is not realistic.
Vlad1975 Posted July 6, 2016 Author Posted July 6, 2016 Hey thanks all i found a fairly new nissan juke for 200k from a friend of a friend and bought it. Just over my budget but it was really worth it )
steelepulse Posted July 7, 2016 Posted July 7, 2016 For future reference, there's a few Facebook groups specializng in buying and selling of vehicles/motorbikes in Phuket. Seems to be a number of desperate sellers if you're a cash buyer.

I agree, there do appear to be some good deals out there- the Facebook sites are always great post Songkran when dreams have been shattered and economic truths have kicked in. Got some great bargains over the years. As i said above though my concerns with a significant purchase such as a vehicle are about outstanding debt on the vehicle and the hassle of dealing with the PLTO in changing/proving ownership. Probably not that great a drama but one I personally choose to avoid. Mainly down to my inability to speak and understand Thai (I have a tin ear when it comes to tonal languages)!
phuketrichard Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 i also brought a used car form Sure in Phuket town, so far very pleased
denkiblue555 Posted July 15, 2016 Posted July 15, 2016 Well, I'll be the first to say that if you bought a "nearly new" Nissan Juke for 200k then you have got a pretty good deal. They range from 840k to 920k...... a very impressive used car discount!
