Tom Dundee to serve 10 years and 10 months for two lese majeste convictions

544_Tom-Dundee-wpcf_728x409.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The Bangkok Military Court today (Monday) handed down three years and four months imprisonment on former entertainer Tom Dundee or Thanut Thanawatcharanon after he was found guilty of lese majeste.

Tom Dundee’s lawyer, Ms Saowalak Po-ngarm, said her client decided to plead guilty to the charge after having denied the charge. She added that she had lodged a protest against the prosecutor’s demand to add the new prison term onto the previous seven years and six months imprisonment imposed by the Criminal Court for the same charge.

As a result of the defendant’s guilty plea, the Bangkok Military Court decided to commute the five-year jailterm to three years and four months term.

The new verdict means that Tom will have to serve up to ten years and 10 months for the two convictions of similar charges.

In the first case, Tom was found guilty and given seven years and six months jailterm for a video clip in the social media during November 13, 2013 and April 26, 2014 featuring his speech which was deemed lese majeste.

The second case concerns his offensive speech on November 6, 2013 which was uploaded in the social media during November 6,2013 and June 27, 2014 during which time lese majeste offence has been placed under the jurisdiction of the Military Court.
