Is Norplant called Jadelle in Thailand or is this a different drug? What are the costs and best places to get the device implanted?

Norplant and Jadelle are both brand names for contraceptive implants. They are the same drug, but the Norplant consists of 6 small rods while Jadelle has only 2. Both are available in Thailand.

Any hospital will have this except the Catholic hospitals.

I don't know re costs, but will be cheapest in a government hospital.

A woman considering this would be well advised to first get the contraceptive injection or take a progestin-only birth control pill (if she has not already used these) to see if it suits her as side effects will be similiar and it is a hassle (and expense) to have the implant put in only to need to have it removed. (Actually said effects will be a little less with the implant than with the injection because there is a steadier blood level of hormones).
