Keep this monk off the road! Highway police appeal to temple

AYUTTHAYA: - Highway police in Ayuthaya got a big shock when they saw a car going against the flow of traffic. They stopped the Toyota and when the driver rolled down the window it was an old monk!

Not only had the aging holy father been going the wrong way but he had hit a trailer and a ten wheeler that were parked by the side of the road as well, reported Daily News.

Prasit Deenok, 72, had been driving his Toyota along the Asia Highway in the Chiang Rak Noi area of Bang Pa-In. He was apparently on his way to see relatives in the area when he was pulled over.

The aged monk had ordained many years ago at a well known temple in Pathum Thani but was now at a temple in Wang Noi. After charging him police took him to his latest temple to tell the other monks there not to let him drive - ever again!

He also faces prosecution for the damage done to the trailer and the ten wheeler.

If you do see an old black Toyota with the Bangkok license number วอ 4249 and someone in saffron behind the wheel it might be best to give him a wide berth.

Loosen up, all that seriousness is bad for your health. Thai Buddhism has become a standard joke and these monks breaking every rule in the book are leaving themselves wide open for ridicule and bashing.

Monks are expected to obey the law...they are thai men...period...the fact that a monk hit my kid doesn't make me feel any better than if a common drunk was responsible...and the reality is that many of them use the temple to hide from work. the police, and responsibility...I've seen plenty of monks in first class when i board the plane...and yes, they should walk and not drive a car...that's part of the deal...poverty and humility...

Totally agree and since the sky is the limit, even a Gulfstream private jet is not out of the question!

The highway police appeals to a temple??? Makes me think about who the hell is really in charge in this country?

I am guessing half you guys cannot respect yourselves so pay out on anyone or anything. He is a 75 year old man of the cloth. Sure he should not have been driving if he is incapable of it, but all this slagging off is totally wrong. You have chosen this country to live in so respect Thai culture even if you do not agree. I bet you would have been the first to fire up about immigrants that came to your home country and started to slag off your people. Your call would be "KICK THEM OUT IF THEY DO NOT LIKE OUR WAYS". Yet here you are slagging off Thais. I only wish the Thai government followed this TV and located you few and kicked your ass out. Don't like the place or the ways? There is a motorway way that leads directly to Suvarnibhumi Airport and I would even pay your tolls. bah.gif

Could you honestly look these parents in the eye and tell them Medicare is good? In relation to your friend, I note he had a "freak fall" with severe injuries. Obviously, emergency surgery. However, you don't mention anything about "elective surgery." Have you heard the term before? An example would be a hip or knee replacement. A common procedure in for the elderly. If something like happened to your friend happened to an expat in Thailand, I doubt they would be allowed to board a plane back to Australia, so we are really talking about returning for elective surgery. If you, and others are happy with "whoever" you get for a surgery, after wait, who knows how long, most likely in daily pain, then fine. I'll go private, chose a top specialist, and get the operation done ASAP, and back to health sooner

      Ok, I'll admit it. I, along with the other 5 billion people who do banking on line are wrong, in spite of the fact that I don't know a single person who's had a problem with it. To me it's no more or less secure than doing transactions on a computer. RE Thai banks, as mentioned I have 3. I also typically have less than 50k baht spread across the 3, with 99%+ of my financial assets held in US institutions. If all 3 Thai accounts were emptied at the same time it would be a minor inconvenience. I'm far more concerned with international transactions set up from my computer than the perils of scanning QR codes at Big C or to buy 20 baht BBQ sticks from a street vendor.
