Police did not note any signs of a struggle.

PHUKET: -- Police do not suspect foul play in the death of a 37-year-old South African man, whose body was found inside a disorderly room this morning in Patong.

Patong police were alerted by the owner of a four-storey residential townhouse building located on Piset Karanee Rd that a foreign tenant was discovered dead in the bathroom of the room he rented.

Police arrived to the scene, in room number one of two on the second floor of the complex, where they found the caucasian man lying on his side under the sink.

The man was not wearing any clothes and had at least one tattoo on his right arm, and investigators estimated that he had been dead for no less than three hours.

The man was named by police but The Phuket News is withholding his name until it can be confirmed that the next of kin have been notified.

Despite the chaotic state of the room, with belongings strung out in disarray, investigating officer Pol Maj Patapee Srichai said that he believed the mess was a reflection of the type of lifestyle the deceased lived.

Police did not note any bruises or marks on the man’s body but took note of other signs* in the room that suggested the man died on his own.

Officers took statements from three Thai nationals, including the building owner, a tenant on the third floor and a woman who claimed to be the deceased’s girlfriend.

All three gave similar statements, revealing that the South African had been living in Patong for about two months, and had initially worked part time to “cheer” for customers at a certain tattoo parlor.

The building owner, who police named as Prasert Kraisanguan, told police that he had discovered the man’s body after forcing open the door when the man did not answer door after knocking several times, which he reported as “unusual behavior”.

' Police did not note any bruises or marks on the man’s body but took note of other signs in the room that suggested the man died on his own' - what a surprise!!

These face saving lying business men would even say there is no foul play involved if a farang was found with a knife sticking out of his back and the perpetrators hand still stuck to it

Is this normal behavior from an owner? If the police are correct then there would not have been any sound from the room for at least three hours. He forced open the door! Why? The poor man may have just been out of the room.

Women's magazines, nail polish and woman's lingerie but no mention of a female associate.

Did you read the story? What does the last word in this sentence mean to you? "Officers took statements from three Thai nationals, including the building owner, a tenant on the third floor and a woman who claimed to be the deceased’s girlfriend."

It says they interviewed three Thai nationals, one who claimed to be the man's girlfriend.

It would seem some consider reading the article before commenting is cheating.

curious to know if had valid visa to stay in thailand.

the other unsolved puzzle in my mind is: how was the guy funding himself

in thailand.

third mystery is that 3 persons gave similar statement. how is that possible?

Perhaps a clue may be found on the top of the overturned plate on the dressing table.

And also the driving license or ID Card, and white "straw" which appears to be rolled up paper, that are next to it. (license for "chopping" - straw for snorting)

Cause of death may possibly be a cocaine / drug induced heart attack.

Oh WOW! These situations are just flat-out embarrassing, aren't they? Or they should be to the people who are actually paid to be professionally involved! It goes well beyond overlooking one or two unobtrusive small clues! Contrary to what another poster says, a girlfriend is mentioned in the report. Yes the items on and around the upturned plate are interesting and it sure looks to me more like someone was looking for something in a hurry than general environmental untidiness. No foul play? Hmmmmm! Could be unintentional death by own hand (and nose!!!) that is near enough to be suicide, isn't it?

Visas are easily enough extended... No mystery

He had seemingly only been in Thailand for a couple of months... Self funding for that would be easy enough, despite the fact that he appeared to be touting for a tattoo parlor (which may have provided food and drink money... Maybe not Coke money, though).... No mystery

3 people could give similar statements if the statements were true.... That's a basic foot slogging cops duty... To take statements and compare same.... No mystery

But.... The room looks like the aftermath of a wild party, at best, and this needs explaining (the Coke may do that, if it is Coke or similar)

This is a case for the coroner to decide... So we have to wait until they tell us it was suicide (or do we?)

The man was not wearing any clothes and had at least one tattoo on his right arm.

Why is him being naked or having a tattoo in any way relevant to his death?

I think that is how they came to the conclusion of no foul play.

Yes I read it over and over and where does it say that?

...clearly somebody helped him make that mess...

...and the owner and several other people surely know who.....

....nobody dies at 37 ......without a good reason.......

...they couldn't deem it suicide.......

...yet they still won't even investigate......

...he had bruises......

....so not even a blood test..... or a scan to see if someone didn't bash his brains in....or to check if he wasn't choked to death..???

...breaking down the door bs....like a cheap Thai movie script.....they have multiple keys for sure....

...and besdies that...they know exactly what happened....

...this is another international outrage.......

...foreign governments and their embassies have to start stepping in.....and opening their mouths....

I like the suggestion of analising the overturned plate. I have even seen video of men doing coke off the top of a urinal.

But I see he does appear to drink lots of water.
