Hi Forum,

Hoping for some informative replies that out weight the negative, long shot but here goes! When we sift through the negativity theres a wealth of information among expats so here i am, asking questions on a forum well known for its depressing content.

Im getting married in udon thani/nong kai region and im australian.

Ive been advised i need to do a statuatory declaration that im free to marry at the embassy in bangkok, then translate this and head over to the amphur with my ladys divorce paper and register the marriage.

What is required to make the marriage legal in both thailand and australia?

Thx for reading

You have to make the paper at your Embassy - have it translated into Thai - then have it registered at MFA in Bangkok as a legal document. Translation service can do the registration and mail to you if you do not want to do yourself. Once you have that paperwork you and spouse visit a District Office and register your marriage. You will also need passport and she he ID/Home Register and any divorce paperwork. Two witness are required to sign and they may require someone to translate Thai to be sure you understand what is being written down on formal paperwork.

Australia will recognize you marriage here without doing anything.

It probably would be worth while to have you marriage certificate translated to English and the have it certified by the MFA for future use in Australia.
