Myanmar traders start hoarding Thai squat toilets for fear of shortage

BANGKOK: -- Squat toilets are currently in high demand in Myanmar after Thailand will soon switch to flush toilets under a law enacted last year.

The law was published in the Royal Gazette on April 23, and it will become effective in 120 days after the announcement or at the end of next month.

The law, however, does not ban the use of squat toilets. It rather encourages the people to switch to flush toilets for health reasons.

But as the law will soon become effective, orders were placed by Myanmar importers for squat toilets for fear that Thai manufacturers will stop producing squat toilets, thus will cause supply shortage.

Thai Rath Online said heavy and small trucks loaded with squat toilets were seen daily leaving border checkpoints for Myanmar, particularly at Mae Sot checkpoint,

The unusual transport of squat toilets came from fear of shortage after the law becomes in force, it said.

Myanmar traders then started to order in large volumes for hoarding in case production stops in Thailand.

It would appear the Ar!!se has fallen out of the squat toilet business , something akin to the Thai economy dropping south into the sewers, however the toilet industry need not worry, for they can always design a water flush squat toilet , all you need is a retired maths teacher and a 3D computer programme, there could very well be an international market for a Flush Squat ( FS ), and the way the Junta is now controlling everyday life , Thailand may very well become the HUB of ar!so!les in the world....................................................cheesy.gif

One sincerely trusts the likes of PTT, Makro, Tesco, Big C etc etc etc will replace all their squats as soon as possible. Now all one has to do is to teach the great unwashed how to use a WC and not to place feet upon the seat.

They already exist. There are a few scattered about. To me, they're the best of both worlds.

I would like to know the "health reasons" behind this law. Certainly squat toilets are easier to keep clean-you just hose down the whole place. They have no moving parts and no hidden nooks and crannies to harbour bacteria. There is no shared toilet seat to pass on random puss and discharges etc. And people that use them all their life seem to be more agile and able to bend down and contort even in their elderly years. And finally, it is a much better position for passing stool.
