At the start of the hill section of the mountain road yesterday I was overtaken by a bloke on a motorbike with an unsleeved firearm slung across his front. As he passed I saw the butt, muzzle & foresight which were enough for me to suspect that it was of single calibre rather than a shotgun.

Having heard the odd pot-shot while walking some weeks earlier I couldn't help wondering what quarry would warrant a rifle, given the height and density of the foliage (ground game) and the fact that airborne targets are virtually impossible to hit other than by shotgun?

The furniture was wooden and the calibre quite small.

Just curious :)
