Antibiotic course/Chronic co

Featured Replies

I've had congestion and phlegm for a few months now. It's been kind of on and off. For example, one day I would wake up feeling congested and would have green boogers and cough up phlegm. Some days the boogers were more clear. Some days it was really easy to clear and some days felt like my eardrums were going to exploded when I blew into tissue. Etc

I went to the pharmacy after I've been procrastinating for some time now. My gf seems to be immune to it because she's never sick. But my son has boogers too. I'm on antibiotics but the pharmacy only gave me antibiotics for about 4 days. When I look online, it says a full course is 10 days.

Whats the minimum amount of days/antibiotics I should be taking?

Anyone else similar symptoms?

The length of time would indeed depend on both the specific drug and on what exactly is wrong with you . While most antibiotics should be taken for 7-10 days, there are some that are a shorter course. In addition, much longer than average courses are indicated for some types of bacterial chest infections e.g. bronchitis.

There is also the question of whether antibiotics are indicated at all, since most respiratory infections are viral in origin.

You would do better to see a good ENT than to self treat like this....especially since the main issue seems to be congestion and you do not mention fever.
