Once again I am left scratching my head. If the old rate of pay for these

jobs was 300 baht a day that is a hefty increase for the economy to support.

It sounds a lot like the system used in Oz many years back where there was a minimum wage level set for unskilled workers and different trades had various  skill loadings - a percentage increase over MW for recognised qualifications.

Not going to affect existing expats a great deal, irrespective of nationality.

 

The most visible effect of the last increase was hotel prices and that is going affect tourists and potential expats of all nationalities.

A few years ago there was talk about minimum wage to 15.000 , wasn't there? 

Did that not happen to prevent the economy going down ?
Or am I completely mixing things up here.?

I believe that was university graduates with a Degree.

Haven't noticed a currency crash,doubt I will.

The wage rise is limited to certain trades,so will have limited effect,on goods and services.

I certainly won't be tightening my belt any.

You are right, it was a recommendation.

A newspaper clip from 2011 refers, that is probably where my confusion is coming from.

I don't know anyone that will  be personally  affected 

by the Thais making more money, even if it is

limited to certain skilled workers.  Imagine 

inflation will affect the poorer Thais, but all my

friends and I have prepared for our retirement and a

10-15% increase in the cost of living here in

Thailand won't be noticed.  Still so economical

to live in LOS!!

Why does she say "asks for business cooperation"? Shouldn't she be able to say "business must comply or face fines"? It makes it sound like it's at the company / business discretion.

well I'm sure people will know what salary they are getting before starting work.... its on their contract that they sign... boss not pay you can always go to labor department

Exactly. I tried looking too but found nothing (maybe we have to wait until the 10th?). The area where my girlfriend lives, I believe the general population will hear this and believe the increase applies to them regardless of training, certificates or job. They can barely get enough work at B300 a day. Good luck trying to get more out of the employer.
