GI *and* GYN recommendation

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations for a gastroenterologist and a gynaecologist, preferably both practising at the same hospital/clinic and preferably not costing the earth since there's no insurance company to pay the bills. Several threads advise against just firing off emails to random hospitals asking for information about appointments with unnamed doctors since the results are often unsatisfactory.

I'm after consultations and then a gastroscopy and colonoscopy, and laparascopic investigation for endometriosis. After searching previous threads for individual recommendations the combination of  Dr.s Thirdchai and Chartchai/Nopadol at Bumrungrad might work apart from the likely cost. I was thinking I might get economies of scale and a shorter hospital stay by seeing both specialists in the same hospital. Otherwise Dr. Rungsun at wherever and Prof. Leungsin at Siriraj sounds like a possibility.

Really a question for a doctor, but since I'm only after diagnostics I wonder if a general surgeon or the GI specialist might be able to wield both the endoscopes and laparoscope? Or if a CT/MRI scan could substitute for these invasive procedures?

Thanks for any replies.

Definitely a general surgeon or GI specialist cannot do the laparoscopy -- you must have not only an Ob-Gyn but one experienced in diagnosis/management of endometriosis. It is not just a matter of accomplishing the procedure but of being able to understand/interpret what is seen. In addition, if the laparoscopy does in fact show endometriosis it is customary to remove as much of the chocolate cysts as possible during the laparoscopy. This needs specific experience/expertise.

Before I recommend specific doctors could you indicate

(1) what the reason for the gastroscopy and colonoscopy are i.e. routine screening vs specific symptoms/problem - makes a considerable difference in who should best do the procedures.

(2) for the laparoscopy, whether future childbearing is desired as in that instance you would be best served by an infertility specialist experienced in management of endometriosis whereas if no desire for future childbearing, expertise in infertility is not important.
