Decent Optician

Featured Replies

I need prism lenses to correct a defect so am looking for a good opticians shop.

Top Charoen has millions of shops but they have no idea what prism lenses are and do not even have the light box to test for those that might need them.

I know they make the lenses here as Thailand supplies opticians in England. Top Charoen said I needed an operation to correct my vision which is <deleted>.

I wonder do the hospitals have optician services?

Thanks for any help

Where do you live since posters may be able to provide specifics for your area?

Regardless of where, most hospitals have ophthalmic/surgeons/practitioners available, best to find a recommended name in a larger hospital, in Chiang Mai that would be Dr Rachada at Chiang Mai RAM Hospital. A complete eye exam including dilation and photo of the eye, around 1k baht, simpler less thorough tests priced accordingly.

Hi.

I live about 4 hours drive from Bangkok and 2 1/2 from Khon kaeng. I have heard KK is known for it's hospitals so will maybe give one of them a try although which one I have no idea.

The best places are usually small, "mom and Pop" optical stores (i.e. not part of a national chain) which can still be found in most provinicial towns, though they are an endangered species.

If you do need to go as far as Khon Kaen see post #3 here

OR go to the KKU Hospital http://www.khonkaensearch.com/khon-kaen-university-hospital/

If they do not do the glasses themselves they will surely know where to refer you to. Alternatively you could get a script from them and then purchase glasses online, many TV members do this as it saves considerable $. For some reason custom made glasses are unusually expensive in Thailand.
