Visa Extension

Featured Replies

We are coming to Thailand on a British passport and will get our 30 day visa at the airport.  After 30 day will we be able to get an extension in Pattaya or do we need to do a visa run outside the country. Because of our travelling plans we cannot get a visa before we travel to Bangkok.  Many thanks.

You will get a 30 day visa exempt entry when you arrive (not a visa).

You can extend your visa exempt entry for 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

You could have problems boarding your flight to here without a ticket out of the country within 30 days of arrival or a visa.

If you are still in the UK you could still get a tourist visa before leaving. The visa would be valid to enter the country for 90 days from the date of issue.

As Joe has said, some airline check-in staff will not allow you to board if you do not have proof of travel out of Thailand within 30 days.

I had this at Glasgow a year or so ago, however I had to point out to the staff that I would arrive TOMORROW so it would be exactly 30 days and not the 31 that they were counting.

As said, You need a visa if staying for longer than 30 days.

  • You will have no problem getting a 30 day visa exempt entry, but the airline might want you to have an onward flight dated within 30 days. You could buy a flight to anywhere.
  • When applying for the extension of stay in Pattaya you'll need to use a local address and provide proof of address.
