We went 80km in a taxi today, after agreeing a price and getting in I noticed there was nowhere to buckle the seatbelt in, we asked the driver, and he fished them out from behind/under the back of the seat to make them useable. What I found funny/sad was that when we arrived and got out, I  noticed he got into the back of the cab  and stuffed them back behind/under the seat. Its a shame such a proven safety feature seems to be ignored so much.

Whilst you have a valid point. Imagine your home country 40+ years ago. Thailand does not see Health and safety as an important aspect of daily life. you can let it get to you or accept it. On a positive note imagine how much the taxi fare would cost in your birth country.

I am not trying to justify the lack of safety just trying to help you understand the total lack of safety here and hopefully trying to see a way, of justification for you to get in the taxi.

On a final note it is a shame. I have seen this so many times and the actual buckle does not even fir into the socket.

Why do some posters make such unbelievable claims?  Would Toyota, for example, fit rear seat belts that would not buckle together?   Of course it wouldn't.  Why would the taxi owner go to the trouble of removing one half of the belt only to replace it with a different one that didn't match and then hide it behind the seat?
