I just started using the last of the dozen Shick: 3 bladed disposable razors I brought last year from the US.  I have a medium beard and was getting more than a month of comfortable daily shaves with them. I will now need to find  locally (Thailand) available, suitable replacements.

Any suggestions?  What brand and models have you found give the most comfortable shaves and the best durability.   In the past I suspected the locally sold Gillette, Shick and Bic brands were not made to the same specs as US and European models; they never seemed quite as sharp or to last as long.

Cost is a consideration though I'd willingly pay more for a model that stands out.

BTW, electrics are not an option for me....just don't like them.

Great success with the Gillette Custom Plus-3 disposable.

Comes in a 4-pack and the plastic is blue.

I find them at most large stores like Tesco and Foodland. I have never searched at 7-11.

I stock up and bring them back to US.

In fact, thanks for reminding me...I leave in a few days.

Allow me to ask: why disposable?

I just changed from the expensive Gillette Mach 3 to "Gillette Vector" (2 blades).

The blades are obviously the same quality as with Mach 3 just "only" two.

Four new blade cartridges cost about 60 Baht while four Mach 3 are about 300 Baht.

Available at Tesco and others.

I use Bic 2 disposables which have the advantage of being widely available- even in most 7/11's.  DO NOT try the 7/11 house brand if you value your skin and blood.

To respond to KhunBENQ, i used to use a Mach 2 or Mach 3 until I realized the blades alone cost more than the Bic's.  Plus, for all the times I went on a trip and forgot the handle, I have a collection of at least $100 worth of redundant handles under my sink.  And at least another $200 worth that I've accidentally left behind in hotel rooms.

It was on one of those trips that I tried the Bic's and I haven't looked back.  And never lament leaving one behind.

You may laugh but I use Daisy Plus Gillette for Women disposable.    In a pink packet - naturally ......

I am 70 years old and have found this to be the best razor for the past 15 years in Thailand.   I found other major brands either hurt when shaving or only lasted a few days,

Like you I don't like / can't use an electric.

I have medium to hard beard and would need to shave a second time if going out in the evenings.

Razor lasts 2 - 3 months normally.

Even when the little white strip near the blade starts to go missing - no nicks etc.

There are only 2 in a pack though ( used to be 3 ).

You can buy in TOPs, sometimes 7/11, and other major supermarkets.

Price, sorry can't remember, about 69 baht ?

There is a Daisy Classic - 4 in a pack - haven't tried yet.

Perhaps you should also consider if the Shaving Foam / Gel you are using here is different to the US.

Here I use Nivea Men Sensitive Shaving Foam - last for ages.

Like Impulse, I had a multitude of handles floating around everywhere and never knew which cartridge to buy for which handle.

I've tried these but don't really like their light feel...I like a handle with a little heft.

The best ones i have found are the BIC 3 blade disposables. They used to be 69 baht for 4 but hard to find now.

But these mean another handle.....

Thanks to all

Honestly, at some point I got fed-up with locally purchased cans of shaving cream running out of propellant while the can was still 30% full of shave cream; maybe cheap valves...I don't know.

I put a nice shaving mirror in my shower and now just use ordinary bath soap for shaving as I'm showering.  I can work up a pretty good foam and as long as my face is well soaked, it really is no less comfortable than specialized foam.  The only disadvantage of ordinary soap is it is drippy, and in the shower, that's not an issue.

Years ago getting a good razor here was a real problem.

Now you are spoiled for choice.

Gillette Blue II disposables work for me, but there are many others that could be recommended.

I buy Gillette disposable safety razors and feather blades.  Before a date I shave at home and then the barber for a close shave.  If I don't shave first the barber turns into a butcher.

I have had good and bad Gillette razors. All the same model. The bad were really bad and I am sure they are counterfeits. The last that I bought at Big C are fine. They are the 3 blade Gillette.

I tried some Schick 3 blade disposables. I'm certain Schick would not put their name on such horrible razors. They had to be knockoffs also.

I did try a pack of the Gillette 2 bladed and agree with KhunBENQ. They seem to be quite good. I'll be using these in the future. Since they are not that expensive, they are likely the real deal and not expensive enough to be fake.

There is a current add on Craigslist that has a guy meeting you at a bus stop. 1000 b for a huge supply of Gillette razors and blades.

My guess would be counterfeit.  But you never know.

I know that feeling.

I see they're charging 499bt for 2 Gillette fusion proglide power blades, I'm making the move to CNX soon and Ive been stocking up on blades....700bt for 8 here in England, might bring a few more now!

Fusion just became available on the open market here - was not being sold here until last several months and as normal very expensive - which is why I have changed to using Bic.  I do not get more than 2 weeks use from any and the cheaper Bic is not that much different and feels like a name brand - beyond 2 weeks they all feel like no-names.

I know what you mean, the blades I use only feel good for a couple of weeks too.  Eventually I'll have to try out what's available locally and decide on what's best for me.

Never had a problem with Nivea and propellant in the 15 years I have been using it here.

Can't get a lather with soap and the the water where I live, the water quality is too variable.

I initially went the disposable/cartridge and can of foam route many years ago when saving time was important to a single parent in full time employment.

A couple of months ago, annoyed with the variable quality and increasing cost of cartridges, I had the basics for safety razor wet shaving delivered to me from Bangkok.

Good quality German made safety razor:    1,500 baht

Boar bristle brush:                                             500

Italian shaving soap (>6 months worth):       350

20 razor blades:                                                 100

It will end up being cheaper than disposables in a few months, but more importantly I had forgotten just how satisfying a ritual it is to shave this way. I end up feeling pampered, even though I'm doing it to myself.

Plenty of instructional videos on youtube for those who've never tried it.

I used this company:

cheap, expensive, 2,3,4,5 blades, brand name or no frills... the older i get the less they 'clean up'!

no matter what and how i stretch or compress the various folds of my facial contours, there are always bristles left, somewhere.

i do like the american made 'pure silk' shaving cream, seems to last for ever - as in two per year or so. but perhaps it is the reason why i give my girl a rash every time...
