The stuttering parrot
Anyone ever tell this bloke the government is the army? Just a bit of self indulgence before heading off to his inactive post with all the trimmings. You will be sadly missed?

kotsak
It's funny when you think that the main purpose of the army is to protect the country from outside threats. Having it to keep order in the inside reveals much about the state of the country. “A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself within.” -- Will Durant

edwinchester
I'm sure all of the Thais in the Southern Provinces are grateful for the peace and order so obviously delivered by the Army for well over a decade now.
waldroj
"Teerachai offered his appreciation to all officers, who he said have dedicated themselves to serving the army and working collaboratively with the government..."You see, this is where the misunderstanding lies. Most of us would be excused for thinking their loyality should be "For the Nation, Religions, King, and People"! Must be army intelligence. Enhancement is in the works here in all fields just look at the new constitution. They went back in time and retraced all the "errors" made in past constitutions and came up with a straight jacket one. One size fits all.
seajae
maybe if they declared an open season on red and yellow shirts all the crap they both cause would cease and things would be a lot more peaceful so the army could start to take care of external threats instead as they are supposed to. For the people to decide not the military. The military is there to carry out the will of the people via the govt not the other way round.

autanic
Quote Gen. Teerachai offered his appreciation to all officers, who he said have dedicated themselves to serving the army and working collaboratively with the government. and the people ? Does the Army serve the people in Thailand ? In many Countries, the Head of the Army is either the Monarch or President. The role of the Army is to protect the people, from external threats. It is the role of the Police to provide order and prevent crime. It is the role of the Government to implement the wishes of the people and to be voted in and out by the people through Democracy. Since 1932, when the absolute monarchy was abolished, Thailand has had 25 general elections and 19 coups d'état, 12 of them successful. In terms of regime changes, I suppose this makes Thailand a democracy by a slim margin. The UK in comparison has 20 General Elections in the same time period. So Thailand has a democracy, but not as we know it.
