Is online porn a harmful, desensitizing addiction?

A 2011 report by the Italian Society of Andrology and Sexuality Medicine (Italy being known as a country of prudes) puts it as starkly as possible: "Internet porn is killing young men's sexuality." The logic is simple. Evolution gave us a "gorging" mechanism when it comes to food and sex, the essentials that evolution selects for.

I think there's something to this.

Not arguing for censorship any more than arguing for prohibition of alcohol.

But too much drinking is harmful ...

Do you agree too much porn is harmful as well?

It desensatizes...and becomes an ever turning wheel looking for something better...
Some guys keep looking for an increasingly edgier thrill

For younger gens...it must make the sexual experiences much different than a couple of generations back.

Is there a new expectation in sex that comes from viewing porn?

Consider monogamy.

Sex with only ONE person for the rest of your life?

Would you think eating only OATMEAL (even though OATMEAL can be nice) for every meal for the rest of your life would be satisfying?
With porn, you can switch sexual stimuli hundreds of times during just ONE ... session.

In the UK, 12 year old boys are growing up thinking sex is all about coming on a womans face….Im afraid I cant agree...

There are a dozen other parts you can come on/in that are equally enjoyable.

Am sure you do....Why don't you get a real partner instead of pulling in front of a TV...?

Hold on while I get these boxing gloves off...

TV is very 90s..

Laptop, tablet, desktop...any mobile device.

Or..as many do...they share watching with their real partner.

Of course...some guys and girls....through personal choice of being single, being ugly and not being able to pull a partner , being unwanted, physical disability, loneliness, temporary separation from partner., etcetera etcetera...

For those guys porn is a valid and accessible medium of sexual relief...as it is for absolutely anyone in fact.

But the OP is a hansum man, has no probs with the lads.......I do wonder why the topic...We all know it may fill a gap.....Perhaps the OP's gap hasn't been filled....Yet.....

Is there a sex chat forum yet here....?

OMG if this is true, then won't it lead to fewer people on the planet? Hmmm I don't see a problem with that outcome

Porn is the liberation of MANkind . Unlimited free safe sex without having to deal & compromise with women. What you do yourself you do better. Is it addictive ? You betcha. Just like food can be addictive. Harmful ? Use more lube or lotion :D.

Damn! Beat me to it. :(

Todays Porn is just abusive, you are watching a woman being raped the way some of these female Porn Stars are treated. Today's millennial generation get their experiences via social media, they watch that and think that is a normal way to have sex.

There was also a study that shows masterbating while watching porn, effects real sexual encounters, erectile disfunction.

I can honestly say, I have never had an argument with my hand. It is always there to handle my money for me, feed me and thrill me.   ;)

My neighbour's called porn, I think too much of looking at her would be harmful, puts me right off!

CharlieK, what you have just stated is a FACT !!!

There was a TV program showing that most girls under the age of 18 years old, first sexual encounter was an unpleasant one, with many stating that they felt abused and sexually degraded by their partners.

You have remember, although illegal some children are having sex as young as 12 years old.  Shocking really !

So your remedy is onanism? Sounds like you prefer porn to real sex, you negate the possibility that even within a monogamous relationship sexual experimentation can be far more satisfying than flicking one's wrist! :whistling:

Without wanting to turn this thread too serious, this is an interesting and rather topical question.

Porn has been around for ever, none of us if we're honest didn't use it to some extent as sex ed.

Modern day online porn is however a world away from the porn most of us, at least the middle aged, grew up with.

It objectifies women as sex toys, in a way as never before. For a teenage boy, or girl today, it presents a wholly unreal view of what real sex is.

It also creates a false impression for young women what is expected from a sexual relationship.

Maybe, if we collectively as a society educated our daughters, what a 'real' fulfilling, pleasurable sex life is, then porn would take it's rightful place as a great piece of fiction to be watched, enjoyed, but not as instructional

I think it's a case of the kind of porn rather than just Porn in general.

I'm coming to believe that obsessive posting to hateful forums is more harmful, and the decline in behavior (Edit: online behavior anyway) comes on quicker and sinks lower than with porn.

There is a documented trend now of U.S. millennials and Japanese younger people being much less interested in human contact sex. How much is porn and how much is about living in parents basements I don't know.

I agree of course porn is the ultimate safe sex as far as STDs are concerned.

Moronic troll posts trying to make this topic about my personal life properly ignored.

Men that say they never wank are either liars or should check out their plumbing.

I read somewhere that a large percentage of porn now days is homemade and its the most searched for.

Porn desensitizes?   Heck, I have "this friend" who, after watching porn, can barely be controlled when their partner finally comes home from work.  For them, it catapults 'normal' sex into the stratosphere.   Both are g0ys, incidentally.  I know, sounds paradoxical, but you probably don't want to know all the details.  Family-friendly forum and all that.
