A friend arrived from HongKong yesterday and was surprised to see a very long queue at immigation. (3 planes landed within 15 minutes of each other.)

He was even more surprised to be accosted by a non-uniformed 'immigration official' who offered to help him to bypass the queue for 200 baht. Quite a few travellers took this option.

Is this a new thing or has it been going on for a while? (I almost always go through immigration in Bangkok.)
