Passport forgery and body in the freezer case: Suspect took “close friend for cremation" to Huay Kwang temple

BANGKOK: -- In a latest twist in the case of the foreigners arrested for forging passports who had a cut up body in the freezer it has been discovered that one of the suspects took a "close friend" to be cremated at a temple a month before he was arrested.

And in other news police appear no nearer determining who the victim in the freezer was but doctors said that they should know more details within a few days.

But police cryptically indicated that they know a lot more than are letting on as they do not wish to jeopardize the enquiry.

The three suspects held are all thought to be Americans but even this is not confirmed yet. And due to the fact that ten fake passports were found the names of the suspects are just that - suspect.

They could be British, French or US nationals if the passports are to be believed.

Latest news centered around the mystery of a friend of one of the suspects. The suspect is known either as William Peter Johnson or Peter Andrew Colter a man who had rented an address in Ekamai Soi 12 before he moved to Soi 56 where Friday's bust and shooting of a tourist cop took place and where the cut up remains were found.

Sanook.com said that Peter Andrew Colter's close friend Robert Grundy had owned the place in Ekamai but had died. They said that it was believed that Colter had taken his friend for cremation to a temple in the Huay Kwang area of Bangkok. Tourist police were due to check the veracity of this on Monday afternoon.

Thai Rath said that William Peter Johnson lived at Ekamai before moving to Soi 56 and quoted deputy police chief Suwat Jaengyortsuk as saying he had taken a dead friend to the temple about a month ago.

Suwat was speaking at Chulalongkorn University before a meeting of police and university forensics professionals took place to discuss the case. Suwat intimated that the police are privy to some details but did not want to reveal these yet for fear of jeopardizing the case against the suspects.

But he did believe that all the suspects are Americans whatever their names.

Doctors are to trying to find out the weight and height of the victim and whether there was poison or other substances in his system. It was difficult, they said, due to the decomposition of some parts. CT scans and 3D imaging as well as DNA testing are being employed to discover the truth of what happened and who the victim was.

Meanwhile national police chief Chakrathip Chaijinda went to the police hospital to visit the cop shot in the raid and announced that Kanchanaphong Chedech is now out of danger. He gave the cop some money and some flowers in the emergency room.

Chakrathip said that the police were still investigating if there were more members of the gang and that the Thai wife or wives of the suspects were also being investigated.

Scan of dismembered body suggests saw used to cut man up.

BANGKOK: -- A SCAN on body parts found in a refrigerator during a raid last week on a building in Bangkok's Sukhumvit Soi 56 suggests it was an elderly European man who was dismembered by an electric saw, Dr Udomsak Hoonwichit, of Chulalongkorn University's faculty of medicine, said yesterday.

The deceased man's DNA will be collected for identification and given to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for a check with its database, he said.

This is starting to sound like a variation of the Charles Sobhraj gang from the 1970s: they murdered young tourists for their valuables and passports. Maybe this mob has been doing the same but with 'elderly' victims.

Glad that they are off the streets.

Maybe collecting their pension payments, how often does an OAP prove they're still on this mortal coil to receive payments?

obviously they are all up to no good and the fact they are withholding their names etc  would mean to me they have previous form from their home countries - wasn't there a mention of FBI involvement (not sure), there were also a lot of guns on display

could possibly be a pedophile ring since something happened that brought them to the attention of police....who knows

Yeah.  If the transfers are already set up, it can be many many months before any statusing or updates need to be done.  Now and then a password change may be required, or a transaction alert may have to be answered, but it is quite possible in many cases that the money will just keep coming.  take the person's ATM card, or even ID if the passport is good enough and go to the bank and withdraw.  it will be interesting if the police ever detail all the monies involved.

Tracking back on 'Robert Grundy' in Thailand leads to an ad from 2011 in this magazine for http://pattayatraderonlinecom.siteprotect.net/nov-mag/pdf/PT-Nov11.pdf that gives away an email address robertg [at] hush.com that leads to https://www.google.co.uk/search?q="robertg%40hush.com"&oq="robertg%40hush.com"&aqs=chrome..69i57.5135j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 and then to a topic titled "low energy nuclear reactions to make gold from copper" http://goldrefiningforum.com/~goldrefi//phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=9518&start=30  where he complains about someone called Doctor Joe Champion because Dr Joe's method for making gold out of copper via nuclear reactions does not work

Incidentally, Dr Joe:

bizarrely looks a bit like the face of the body that was found - a photo I won't link to.

Gold from copper, that's a new twist. Traditionally it's been lead to be "magically" transformed. either way, a scam as old as the hills.

Indeed! I believe the formula for turning copper into gold is exactly the same as turning shit into gold! From listening to this guy I doubt he could turn a grape into a raisin.

It's quite pleasing that the police aren't releasing names, coming out with speculative comments and making themselves look foolish, which so often happens in Thai criminal cases, and instead are keeping information to themselves.

Agreed.

The Thai cops appear to be handling this case better than so many others in the recent past.

Even the Keystonian RTP must be aware that Europe is not a part of the USA

Well.  You are stating something of creation of your distorted brain.  I am talking about the big number of foreigners who are only fit to be locked up in psychiatric hospital or jails back home.  Maybe you feel you are one of them.

No, I'm just tired of the nonsense puked up about foreigners because of the actions of an extremely small minority.

What you call extremely small minority are those getting caught,  the number of those who are free is certainly big.  Thousands are working illegally,  many are abusing kids and....

You can ignore the reality if it makes you feel good.

it is more likely that the cops dont know much and that is why they are not releasing any details. pretty much every case i have ever seen involving the coppers here they immediately release every bit of evidence they have even if it is not verified. surprised they have not released several theories of what they think has happened.

when abroad they normally have to report/prove their vivid status once a year. But then...if they don't: Pensions will be stopped, maybe some gvment agency even starts looking for them ... after some considerable time...

Who knows what's really going on?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
