Mangnatook? Thai insect with ugly bite marks.

Featured Replies

I  can not find it on the English websites probably due to misspelling or mishearing it.  It is an ugly looking bug with black and yellow/orange sections.  I have these awful looking rashes on my legs, red lines with white yellow spots, Not much pain or itch but very disconcerting.  The good Thai lady pharmacist found it online in seconds and put my mind at ease.  Would like o find pics of the bug and the rash on google but alas my Thai is too limited.  Anyone know what I'm talking about? Anyone been bitten by one to see these outrageous looking results!

That's it!  Thank you. One nasty looking huge bite mark.  Another lesson learned.  Fortunately neither painful nor itchy but ugly as....

Looks nasty. If you Google for Rove beetle stings you can see some bigger ones with water-filled blisters. The poison contains a potent vesicant (blistering agent, like mustard gas). The rash should clear up over time.

The Thai name translates literally as 'beetle which raises its ass'. Apparently when disturbed they raise their behinds up in the air like scorpions, almost like a warning about what is to come if you mess with them!
