webfact Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 INUNDATION No respite from flooding PRATCH RUJIVANAROM, TANATPONG KONGSAI THE NATION Capital’s chronic problems created by insufficient pumping and drainage BANGKOK: -- BANGKOK RESIDENTS will have to continue enduring floods this year as an improved prevention system will not be in place until next year, though the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has said it is doing what it can to ease the problem. Heavy rain in Bangkok on Monday left 17 locations in the capital submerged in water, which caused major traffic jams across the city. It took nearly 10 hours to drain some streets. Sucharit Koontanakulvong, chief of Chulalongkorn University's Water Resource Engineering, said that flooding was a chronic problem in Bangkok and could not be solved easily. AgMech Cowboy Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Pretty difficult to prevent localized and 'flash' flooding. The important part of that is keeping the drainage system free of rubbish and hyacinthine and other foliage. Ten hours is a long day for those who suffered in it, but it deems in comparison to the 30+ days in 2011.

eliotness Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 They had ample time during the "drought" to sort out the drainage system ! So what happened ?
outsider Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Same same every year. "We will do something by next year..." Repeat.
Remus1830 Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Just blame yingluck. Who was it said no problem with flooding only a few days ago.
eggers Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 The main reason for the flooding & road traffic problems in Bangkok is b/c the BMA is grossly negligent in it's operations related to drainage management & town planning. The issue of drainage management has been a problem for decades yet "Sukhumbhand & his merry men" have done nothing to replace outmoded drains nor put in place a regular drain cleaning program. Plus, there does not appear to be one iota of Town Planning in regards to building of new high rise buildings w/o any thought as to drainage nor the other issue of road traffic. Just a bunch of self- interested jerks!! PM Prayut should sack the whole BMA!!
