Hong Kong student activist Joshua Wong is persona non grata and is not allowed to enter Thailand, deputy Immigration Bureau chief Pol Maj Gen Pakpoom Sajjapan said Friday.

Pakpoom said Thai authorities determined that Wong would be a threat to security so he was deported to his origin country.

Thai authorities on Wednesday denied entry to the pro-democracy activist at the request of China. He had been invited to speak at an event to mark the 40th anniversary of the Thammasat University massacre. However, Wong on Thursday joined a talk titled "Politics of the Young Generation" via Skype at Chulalongkorn University.

Deputy police commissioner General Srivara Ransibrahmanakulhas said he there was no threat to security in Wong's skype talk as he only talked about the movement in Hong Kong.

You wonder what the benefit can be from this?

Better International understand, More tourists, A rise in Foreign Investments? Whats the point? Besides following Chinas orders.

Now all know the kid. If he had just entered and spoken, most would not care or even know at all.

"Pakpoom said Thai authorities determined that Wong would be a threat to security so he was deported to his origin country."

But the junta chief said he wasn't deported, so which is it?

Lads, making it up as you go along while the cameras are rolling is not a good idea if you expect to be taken seriously...

Yeah, statements can get a bit messed up, when internal communication fails. However, I am sure you can believe the one with the most stars on his shoulder.

So they wheeled out the Deputy today, and not the Chief who, on Wednesday, blatantly lied to the press...

Immigration Bureau chief Pol Lt-General Natthon Phrosunthon on Wednesday said he had no reports about Hong Kong democracy campaigner Joshua Wong being barred from entering Thailand.

"From our reports, the person [appearing in the news] was not on the list of passengers travelling to Thailand," he told reporter at 11am.

Congratulations to the man who has now infamously joined the "persona non grata" Club of which Thaksin Shinawatra is the founding member

The military turkeys gobblers couldn't have done a better job of stirring up the free speech peasants if they had tried.

Why not just shut up and let things roll over.

But no..... they just have to try to prove who is the boss. Egos running rampant.

If he is a threat to Thailand's national security, can you imagine what threat a democratic soldier might be to the country?

Still can't figure out why Hong Kong officials even let him fly out of HKG? Very easy to deny exit, take away his passport and avoid any problems.

Or did they consider re-routing him to the mainland?

It is very clear that the less than nimble minds running this country fear China's wrath.  The brave military men here are not that brave.

Obviously a democracy advocate is not allowed into a country which already has a "roadmap to democracy"... :coffee1:

He's a threat to national security because he might promote democracy, something that does not exist in Thailand at the present.  Can't have the students of Thailand getting any "crazy" ideas about democracy, the generals might find they are not liked very much.

Lets not upset the propaganda applecart here in Thailand. We do not want to turn all these uppity young people here into free thinkers of the future heavens no. If these young people want to listen to freedom propaganda we can dish plenty of that out from the government level we do not need outsiders to explain freedom to our young people. So there. Just as a matter of note Mr. Xi in China has no interest in naming his successor prior to the Communist party enclave meeting which has been the normal procedure in the past but then what part of China is truly normal. Methinks Mr. Xi wants to make a one man decision on extending his term of office. He envisions himself another Ghengis Khan no doubt.

Dear All,

Jashua Wong is well known in HK and in the democratic circles of SE Asia. He wants what we in western world already have, no difference: honest elections

He was democratically elected, hence should be allowed to enter any country. Would Thailand prevent US president from entering  because he also preaches democracy of the same style as Jashua Wong. Finny but seems powerful china scared of a 19 yr old and more so of what he preaches and advocates.

I think however you want to portray Prayut by picking out students, Red shirts and the Shins and making example if you cross that line is a shrewd move, it might also backfire big time if and when the ferryman comes in.
